Our girls are happy with their New Country Layer feed
We've been feeding our girls New Country for years now. They are big fans of the actual grains and I appreciate that I can tell what they are eating as opposed to pellets. I like that my hens are eating real food - we used to purchase this locally but haven't been able to find it since our local feed store closed. Being able to have it shipped directly to the house is great. The price is a little higher than what we paid locally, but we understand and don't mind supporting a small business. Great feed that our hens love!

Great feed, please improve packaging for shipment.
Feed is great! I appreciate the quality of the feed for my hens. Seller could improve packaging. They used to ship the feed bag within a box which provided some protection from the shipping process. Now, the feed is shipped without a box, just the feed bag itself. I’ve had continual issues with the feed not arriving because of damage. This last time the feed arrived with its bag taped up and banged up. When I weighed it on arrival, it was 45.8 lbs rather than 50 lbs.

Chickens looked scruffy & thin-This changed that.
My birds are thriving on this. They are filled out, their feathers beautiful & glossy & the birds are strong & healthy. I noticed they were enjoying the bits that were in their water, so began soaking the feed & that led to fermenting. While I don’t like it - the smell or the mess of feeding- they loved it so much & began to improve so markedly & were very content with this as their morning meal.So I provide it the way they like it. I add herbs & a splash of beef broth and a sprinkle of kelp on serving. And less feed is satisfying them. I also keep crumble in their automatic feeder for their second meal & in case I’m ever out of pocket for mealtime- which hasn’t happened but just in case. Egg production is consistently an egg a day per chicken!! And I love that it’s organic.

Soak overnight to eliminate waste
There is significant powder fines in this feed which is why I can’t imagine not soaking it otherwise you have a lot of waste. I soak overnight in just enough to cover and the grains soak up all the water. My chickens love it and they have laid all winter. Not 5 stars just because of price.

Fantastic. Chickens love it. Very Fresh.
I have raised my birds since they were chicks on New Country from Starter and Grower feed to this Layer feed. It's easy to ferment and the girls love that, but they also really enjoy it unfermented as well. I chose corn free due to being in very HOT Texas and only supplement cracked corn when the weather gets in the mid-thirties and under, which is not very often. They hit the grower stage in November and seemed to need supplemental protein even on the grower formula, but that may be due to the cold and filling out the rest of their feathering all at the same time. When I started them on this Layer feed they were really excited about it. Opening the bag it looked great, very clean and dry with a good smell. The girls don't seem to need as much of it either now that they finished out their initial growth spurt. This really is a great brand and worth the price for happy, disease-free birds, who love to bounce around and play.

My ladies love it, egg production has never been better
My Prarie Bluebell hens love this feed. They were raised on another organic feed but it became harder to get, and the quality seemed to have gone downhill. Then I found this! My hens had stopped laying because of feed I was purchasing at the local tractor supply, and to me it was obvious that it was THAT feed. Within a couple weeks of dumping that other feed and filling their bucket with this, my girls were back to their normal production and then some! I have one hen that lays 2 times a day. The feed is always fresh, and sprouts well when I do ferment it - which the ladies loove. Also with the paper packaging, it doubles as egg box liners!

Mixed in a LOT of dirt! Poor quality!
The 25 lb bag has mixed in a great deal of dirt. Possibly contribute to half the weight. Poor quality and expensive. Never buy it again.

Too much waste
Too much powder. Half of it is powder which my chicken won’t eat. Stick with other brands.
