WOW! Top of the line wireless bike computer!
Initially I was put off a bit by the price of this unit. But, having used the Protege 9.0 Wireless, I can say that this bike computer is awesome. It was easy to install and it's easy to operate. Setup of the actual computer portion of the unit did take a little figuring out, but once I did figure it out, it was easy to set it up. In use, the Protege 9.0 Wireless Bike Computer performs outstandingly. The numbers on the display are large and easy to read, even with sunglasses on. Just push the bottom of the display forward in the mount to scroll through the information that's displayed in the fourth row of data on the screen (current speed, ride time, and distance are always displayed in the first three rows, in that order, from top down). I've yet to find a situation where I had any interference between the transmitter on the front fork and the receiver/display mounted on the handlebar. I wanted a wireless bike computer, to avoid having to run unsightly wires down the fork of my bike. The performance has been solid. It has also been very accurate. I used the chart in the instructions to set the wheel diameter (my touring bike has 700 x 28c tires), and the distance is right in line with what's reported by both my MapMyRide and Strava GPS apps on my phone. To clear the data for a new ride, simply press forward on the bottom of the bike computer display (as it sits in the mount), and hold it there for 3 seconds. The only con I can see is that the thermometer isn't very accurate. Mine reads on the high side, making me feel worse when riding on hot days (it sometimes read 12* F higher than the current temp). Come on, now ... if the thermometer is going to read inaccurately, let it read lower. At least that way, I'll feel better while I'm drenched from a hard ride in hot weather. Knowing that the thermometer is inaccurate, I now take the temperature data with a grain of salt. While it's nice to have a thermometer on a bike computer, I'm more concerned that the rest of the data is accurate -- and it is. Also, be sure to press forward on the bottom of the display to wake the receiver unit up, especially if it has been in sleep mode for a while. Otherwise, it will not start recording your ride information. If you just remember to "wake" the unit before you take off (if it's in sleep mode), you'll never have to worry about this issue. You won't go wrong with this wireless bike computer. I'm planning to buy one or two more for some of my other bikes.

Fake WSS Program
Selected this device after searching for an odometer with Temperature and wireless. I use it to supplement my GPS screens. Selected for small size, visible tracking features, wireless, easy programming and changing screens. After 4 months of tracking distance as compared to my 2 GPS and reprogramming the Wheel Size (WSS) over 20 times after each cycling ride (between 30 to 100 mile routes) - each ride (over 50) displayed a random distance of plus or minus 2 to 6 miles the real distance. The wheel size program is FAKE. Odometer produces inaccurate distances.

Awesome Bike Computer, Not So Awesome Instructions
I'd been looking at bike computers for weeks and weeks before I decided on the Planet Bike 9.0 Protege Wireless. I was initially looking at the Sigma w/HRM and Altimeter, but in the end I decided I wanted to have one computer for both my road bike and mountain bike and in order to meet my budget the Sigma would be too expensive. I was able to get the Protege and an extra receiver/mount for less than just the Sigma. I was so excited to install this computer on my road bike since I've had to track my mileage on Mapmyride.com everytime I went out. This computer does exactly what it advertises. Having all the info on one screen makes it so easy to see temp, mileage, speed, time, etc. I love that you don't have to fiddle with tiny buttons to switch modes, just push the computer forward in it's cradle and it switches modes that simply. It seems to be accurate and so far I haven't experienced any kind of interference with the wireless transmitter. The only gripe I have with this computer is the instructions. They're pretty vague and seem to be a universal kind of deal meant for different versions of the Protege line. I had to search online to see exactly where on the fork to mount the transmitter since the instructions don't tell you, they only show a very simple illustration that is questionable at best. I found out it's best to mount the transmitter 1-2" from the hub. That would be good information to have in the instructions in my opinion. Also the tire size measurements in the instructions didn't work out to match my calculations by manually measuring the rollout for both bikes. Meh, nothing too bad, but it just kills me when such a great product is brought down by bad instructions. Wouldn't be the first time I guess. Otherwise I couldn't be happier with the computer. I love how it has two settings, one for a mountain bike and one for a road bike. That's exactly what I was looking for. It seems well built and sturdy. It's a little nerve racking taking the computer out from one craddle to put into the other since it fits VERY snug, but don't be scared, just push it backward hard and it does come out. I had to tripple check the instructions to see how to take it out once I got it in. It's in there, you just have to look for it. I kind of wish it had a backlight for night time riding, but in this price range none of them do, so it's not a biggie. I highly recommend this computer for both road bikers and mountain bikers. I ride both and it's worked flawlessly on and off road.

I was able to install it on my fairly short stem which wasn’t clear in description. What I like: I can see speed, elapsed time, distance, and average speed without changing screens. Large numbers. Temperature fun to have. Probably not that accurate. Easy to install. Best computer I have ever had. I do not like the Cateye products for having to switch screens often.
