I had originally purchased another multi card reader for my laptop in the $25-30 range on Amazon. First, I discovered that most of these cheap card readers may hold 2 or 3 sd cards, along with other types, but can't read any two of them simultaneously. My computer could only recognize one of the sd cards in the slots, but I needed all my sd cards to be recognied at the same time on my computer. Around this same time, my computer started crashing regularly. Turns out the cheap card reader was the culprit. We found that Its driver was causing corruption of other files and "page not found" Windows system errors. That's when I purchased THIS item and it's worth every cent. Yes, it has to be plugged into the wall, yes, it only handles sd (regular and micro) cards and it's 3x the price of these others - but it's the real thing, reliable, can read/write to all 4 sd cards simultaneously... and shouldn't crash your system!

Okay, besides this thing being fast (SO FAST), I like the design. It just FEELS quality. First...nice smooth, rounded corners. And, I know it doesn't relate to everyone, but it matches the space gray of my MBP. And, the final touch - there's a nice "rebound" when you insert the cards, just like in a camera. Too many other SD card readers just have you jam the card in there until you think it's seated. The insert, then slight springback just gives me better peace of mind. Well functioning and easy to use product. Love it!

I don’t totally understand why other portable card readers can be so small in light with 2 to 3 SD ports, and this one has to be a brick! It even requires its own power supply. That said, I have to dump up to four cards every evening and this does the trick. The size and weight, and the power supply rather annoying but, I haven’t found any other reader that has four slots for SD cards. I wouldn’t call this portable, but if you were looking for a dedicated desk card reader + paper weight, it works well.

This product works well for me. I have been able to totally reorganize my array of SD cards in a way that I'm not always searching for the right card for the files I'm looking for and it has provided me with the means to copy back and forth between cards. (Used to have to upload/download to my primary drive). Product supports higher speeds (anecdotal -- haven't pulled out a timer yet) and does not generate a lot of heat. Rating would have been a five, except I'm not always sure when a card is truly inactive. When I Windows eject a card from the system, the LED indicator on the drive stays lit, giving me cause for concern with whether it is truly done with the card or not. I would probably buy this again, but as I mentioned in the header, it does seem a bit pricey.

After a long search I found this gem. Works great with SD cards of any kind and MICRO SD cards in the SD card adapter. (as of 5/18/2022) My best upload speed is 90mb/s with my cards. I had always gotten 19mb/s on my old readers, but now I'm uploading video on 4 64gb cards at the same time which cuts the wait time drastically. I can't believe a multi-sd-card reader is so rare. This is currently the only one on the market less than $150 at this time so I had to get it.

If you want to use it without wall power and your laptop has powered USB C ports (I think I saw one for powered USB A as well) I found this MEROM Universal 5V DC Type-C Power Cable that powers the reader directly from my laptop. Also, micro SD in an adapter works just fine.

I'm giving this a two star rating with the proviso that I wanted a 4-slot multicard reader that performed well "right out of the box." I have two other multicard readers (both two slots each) that perform flawlessly with the same tested media. On a Mac computer, I couldn't consistently access and play the video media directly from the cards with quicktime when using the StarTech. I also found the overall build quality (though that aspect is much more "forgivable) to be on the cheap side.
