HENCKELS EverSharp Pro Starter Knife Set, 3-piece, Black/Stainless Steel

These are very good utility knives. No, they are not hundred dollar works of tool craftsmanship - they are not meant to be. The microgroove edges are quite sharp, but did have a bit of burring present on the side opposite the grooves. This was an easy fix with a quality single-side edge sharpener. I utilized my excellent Chef's Choice diamond sharpener on only the side opposite the grooves - two quick passes removed all burrs and a left nice sharp cutting edge.

First off, I'm not a gourmet chef. I cook simple, down-home meals using common, everyday, easy-to-find ingredients. For those reasons, I don't need to spend a fortune on knives. This set is perfect for me. The knives have a nice weight & feel good in my hands.Each knife has a triple riveted, contoured, black polypropylene handle with stainless rivets, & each knife has a fully visible tang construction. Although the knives are dishwasher safe, it's recommended that they be hand-washed. According to my packaging, each knife is made from high quality German stainless steel, is one-piece precision stamped & has a duo blade finish-blade; with a mirror polished edge, satin finished.Each knife has a different serration.The 8" chef's knife's blade has a micro serrated edge, I use this knife for most everything I do...chopping, cutting & slicing.The 5" utility knife's blade has coarse serration; I find this knife very difficult to use because of the size of the serration. I rarely use it.The 3" paring knife's edge is finely serrated. I use this knife for slicing small fruits and vegetables. It can also be used for boning small poultry.I've owned my set for about 6 years now & have had no problems with it. They look like new and perform like new. Most of the time I hand-wash & dry them. I always store them in their original packaging to keep the blades from banging against my silverware & other utensils. In the past 2 or 3 years, I've purchased other sets for wedding gifts. As far as I'm concerned, this set is all I'll ever need to make delicious, home-cooked meals for my family.I gave the set 4 stars because the serration on the utility knife makes it hard for me to use, otherwise it would've gotten 5 stars from me.

Just to counter the negative comments. These are not professional knives. They have a mico- serrated edge that keeps the knife sharp and very useful for daily needs. I had a set for 6 years and they still cut as good as new. If you want a knife that can cut paper thin tomato slices these aren’t the type. They will do all your ordinary slicing and dicing without the worry of finding you have a dull knife.

Nice knives with good, sharp edges. Be aware that these can not be casually dropped into a sink after use as the tips are finely ground and *will* bend...how do we know this?<sigh> These are sharp and shouldn't be given to 2-year-olds as play objects...probably shouldn't be given to some 30-year-olds. Could possibly be used in circus knife-throwing show, but Ringling Brothers closed shop so that might not be an option.

I bought this for my mom who for years has been using steak knives and pairing knives to cut everything. I think it's a culture thing because seems like everyone from India does the same even though they've been in the US for 40+ years. Anyway they are very sturdy knives, now anytime I am visiting my parents, I can actually cut vegetables with a real knife. These will definitely stand up over time. My sister in law loved the set so much she asked me to order a set. they were all amazed how good things can be chopped up with quality knives. Having worked in at a country club and high end restaurant in my teen years, I knew Henckels were of the highest quality. For the price you get the 3 knives that 99% of people are going to use.

I had a full set of Eversharp knives and had to replace a few. While these knives are sharp, they are shorter, have noticeably thinner metal and smaller handles than the original ones. Decent knives for the price, but if you mix in with an older existing set, you will be disappointed.

Great knives for the money. Seriously, these knives are not top quality you would see in a gourmet kitchen but they are very good at what they need to do. Cut, chop and slice. Just hand wash them each time.

The handles are solid, but a different texture than what I am accustomed. Stainless steel will be durable and sturdy. The serrated part of the knife is very sharp!

Chose this particular set because I had one previously and loved it. It was intended as a gift for a closer friend of mine
