Could this be crocheted into a purse?

Yes, I think with a small crochet hook it could be. I think it's like regular string in terms of dimension and there's very little give to it so it isn't stretchy.

can I learn the thickness of these ropes

This is 8/4 cotton. That means size 8 cotton strands with 4 of them plied together. 1600 yards per pound. Tubes contain 1/2 pound or 800 yards. Think of it as heavy string. Great for tying packages and such. I use it for weaving. Never would I call it a rope. It is strong, cannot easily be broke by hand, use scissors. About 12 of these twisted together might make a lightweight rope.

Could this be used for knitting also?

sorry, I don't knit to know if this would work for that. I've used cotton yarns to crotchet dollies and this would work for that.

can you use this cord to make piping for garments?

This is a very thin yarn/thread when it comes to piping. It is smaller than window blind cords. It is about the size of 6 strands of embroidery cotton. Maybe Sugar and Cream yarn would work and give you a thin piping cord if you are looking for a 100% cotton yarn.

Great yarn, misleading presentation

Second purchase of this great yarn, won’t snap, lot’s of flexibility, great warp for weaving. But only ONE CONE - not two. So be aware you’ll be getting only ONE piece when considering its price. Still, great. If you’re interested is specs: aprox 25wpi / sett 12epi. It’s annoying that is looks like you’re buying two cones, yet still good value for money, if you consider prices for good wraps online.
