Boating Skills and Seamanship, 14th Edition

While I was active in the Coast Guard, I heard a lot of Auxiliary members talk about how good this book is and how much information is in it... So Now that I'm a Retired Commander, I thought, what the heck, I will get one and look it over ... I have yet to read it through, but I did flip through it.... So I see a lot of good information for beginners, but I don't know if I would call it a " must have for all seamen "..... I have done well for fourty years, never had a mishap, never had to file a boating accident report that involved ME, and I had never seen the book until recently..! So is it that good, well that's for you to decide..! As for me, it's just a good read..! I'll probably just end up keeping it on my yatch to resolve any arguments that pop up from time to time....

Taking a boating class and this is the required book. Packed full of required information ever boater needs. As a novice boater, this is a great place to start.

Lots of necessary and useful information

Excellent book and worth the price. Gives a very good base for those starting in the boating world and it's a good reminder for those who boat only in the summer months. For those of you looking to purchase a boat get this book now. It gives you many tips that will assist you in your purchase. It will also assist you in trailer questions and equipment needed on your boat.

Very thorough. It covers all aspects of boating. I recommend it for the beginning boater or someone who wants to learn more.

I purchased this for use on near coastal waterways and inner waterways (rivers) since I am sailing on waterways near enough to land and near enough to cell towers and wi-fi booster spots. Great for the Kindle. I have an older and outdated paperback version that I was using in the ship's cabin, but this kindle version makes it more accessible and takes up less space. Just make sure to have a paper version as backup in case you sail far enough to be without wi-fi or cell tower access. Its probably not up-to-date now, but the changes are minimal. Required reading for all ship's captains, even if its a crew of one (your own vessel).

The best boating instructional training book

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary has presented all of the topics in a well organized, easy to understand format with great diagrams and pictures. I am new to boating and very pleased with my purchase.
