Go buy it! Such a good book! Keeps you reading
I read this book in less than two days it was so good! My husband travels to Africa yearly for a mission trip and it was so interesting reading the account from the main character and how he lived through horrible times.

Pretty grueling story
I bought copies years ago, for granddaughters, I thinking the story centered on the girl's story about bringing water for her family. The early part of the story is bleak. My kids gave me a little heat at the time I chose this title, which someone recommended. I remember my kids telling me, after grandkids looked into the story, that they needed something to read that was not about war and hardship. Now, a couple days after writing earlier remarks, I have finished the book. It ends on a positive note. Folks who reviewed the story thought the ending was too abrupt and lacked details, which likely was not the point. This story has one focus--water in the village, and what that means for people who have been drinking muddy pond water, walking for big parts of their day, carrying water. The story is a bit like a news' article, with a little more detail, and the message could have be expanded to describe the hardships girls face--sometimes sexual violations, and certainly carrying water interferes with their ability to go to school. Many children don't develop physically as they ought to due to their hard physical labor. All of this was not explained in the story, which falls into the genre of "social commentary", explaining facets of life of children who live in war-torn countries. This is not a highly entertaining story--the tale has another purpose, to tell about poverty, war, and what clean drinking water and an accessible well means to poor children and their families.

Inspirational
Fantastic Book, easy read for about 5th grade up. Good depiction of struggle without being gruesome. Love the twist at the end.

An Emotional and Inspiring Masterpiece!
I just finished reading A Long Walk to Water, and I am genuinely moved. This book tells a powerful, dual-narrative story that is both heartbreaking and deeply inspiring. Why this book is a must-read: Compelling Storytelling: The way the author weaves together the two stories—one from 1985 and one from 2008—is brilliant and keeps you engaged from start to finish. Educational and Eye-Opening: It provides such an important perspective on the history of Sudan and the daily struggles for basic needs like water. Inspiring Themes: At its heart, it is a story of incredible resilience, survival, and hope that stays with you long after the final page. Accessible for All Ages: While it handles heavy themes, the writing is clear and accessible, making it an excellent choice for both young readers and adults. This is more than just a book; it’s a perspective-shifting experience. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a story that is as educational as it is emotional.

A Heartfelt Read
I used this book alongside my world geography class. It is a heartfelt, true story of water resources and so much more. I highly recommend reading this. The book is short, easy to read, and powerful. You might find yourself doing more around your own home to conserve water.

Eye opening easy read
Bought this to read with my kids at night. We read between 2-4 chapters per night. The book tells two different stories at the same time so each chapter tells a part on Nya and her getting water and the other part of the chapter talks about Salva a young boy who has to escape war torn Sudan. So far it has been an easy and quick read. We are about two night away from the end. It room longer for my 7 and 9 year old to get into it then my 13 year old. We are at chapter 12 and they all asked me to keep reading to find out what happens next. I think my kids have a hard time grasping the concept that there is more going on in the world then what is right outside their door but I think that this opened their eyes to a word outside their own as this is based on a true story. Quick easy and attention capturing book. Great for tweens and teena alike. Enjoyed reading something outside of our normal fiction genera.

really loved the book. it is absolutely incredible. at first it was a bit slow to get into the book but the moment the war starts it is a fantastic tale of survival. I especially liked how it was told from two different viewpoint with there being two different characters one struggling for survival with the war and the other struggling for survival with having to walk hours on end for water. the fact that it is based on a true story which is explained at the end is also fantastic. really would recommend to read.

Difícil ler em determinadas parte, pelo sofrimento tão vivido das pessoas. Mas um livro importante e necessário, que descreve uma linda história de superação, dedicação e um olhar para o futuro com coragem e determinação.
