Highly recommended upgrade from stock OEM
This is a great distributor cap. I have a 1999 Chevy Tahoe with the 5.7 liter Vortec engine and they are notorious for "eating" distributor caps and rotors. There is an air conditioning line that is routed over the distributor cap and this causes excess condensation under the cap. An OEM cap will have aluminum alloy towers which provide good spark conductivity, but are susceptible to corrosion due to condensation and the ozone created from sparking. This cap has brass towers which also give good conductivity, but are less prone to oxidation. The cap and rotor installed easily, taking all of 15 minutes to get to and replace. The fit was perfect. The only caveat was, in my case, the screws provided were a different thread pitch than my aftermarket distributor has, so I simply reused the original cap screws. The screws provided for the rotor fit perfectly, so I discarded to old, rusty, screws and used the new ones. I did notice better throttle response after installing the new cap and rotor. It wasn't a huge difference, but noticeable. I expect that I will get a year to 18 months out of this unit, as opposed to six months out of the OEM caps and rotors I have used previously. I highly recommend this set for the 5.7 Vortec engine. The cost savings from OEM is an added bonus!

Damn good for a cheap product
Ok so I don't write many reviews but this cap and rotor deserved it. Unfortunately the ignition cap on a 5.7 vortec engine sucks weather it's an auto or marine application. So if anyone has owned a boat or a truck with this crappy cap design you have replaced a few. Most caps that I've purchased in the past have been real garbage. But this one fit like a glove and seems to work great. I don't expect it to last too long considering the design is the problem not necessarily the part. But this is the best bang for your buck for a cheap replacement and the contacts are actually brass who knows the grade of brass but who cares the aluminum contacts aren't even worth installing. Good luck with your project motor on my friends.

GM 5.7 Vortec
So far so good. Actually has copper contacts in cap. Got my 1996 5.7 running smoothly again. Order was received promptly and in good condition. Will update review if it lasts.

Proper replacement for vortec v8 sbc engines
Looking for a proper solution to continually burnt and shorted cap and rotors, leaving your GM Vortec engine 5.7l v8 350 etc with a crank no start. Brass connectors over aluminum for longer life of the connectors (burning/melting from spark) inside distributor cap. Properly designed rotor with bent electrical connection for closer gap (low voltage spark) to brass terminal on cap. Solving the shorted coil to cylinder #3, burning and jumping spark through cap due to higher voltage from coil. Looking on Amazon this is the only combo that sells both cap and rotor together and the price is really nice aswell.
