Whitman's Jumbo Sampler Assorted Chocolates Box, 40 Ounce

I bought this as a gift for my Mom's 80th birthday. She is a chocolate candy freak. When I gave it to her she laughed and got the biggest kick out of the size of the box. Mom immediately opened it and had a few pieces. I think she can eat on this for awhile. She says it is the best gift ever.

I ordered the Giant Sampler from Amazon and NO, I did not shop at the Whitman's site first or any other store.The box was received by friend who loves unique presentations. He told me that he shared most of the top layer, because he thought there was a second ( as all other Samplers are ), but he ended up with 5 chocolates. He shrugged it off, but I was annoyed. I read the information and saw the truth of it all. When selling something like this, the information should be submitted for the customer to see....where they don't have to search for it, after the disappointment.Myself; I like Whitmans and I always have, but even with that name, quality and integrity has gone down in people's minds.I'll get another box ( regular size ) as an Easter gift. At least he'll know what he has.I'm sorry, but I had to share this experience. It's kind of sad that it's a sign of the times. We don't read labels enough and it's not presented to nudge people to read....either.KathrynP.S.....listen, there is nothing Wrong with the " presentation" box, if you want a big reaction, and the candy is good. Just be aware that it is mostly for show and to not expect the " usual" Whitman double layer. You are paying for that reaction, you know....

The delivery guy handed off the box to me. It was in the 70s that day, so no heat issues and most of the country had winter weather. I don't know how the chocolate melted, but it did and had already turned solid again, so I'm guessing it wasn't the shipping. Most likely the warehouse had let this chocolate melt and solidify before shipping. That's very very bad. Many of the chocolate had a light brown dust on them which happens to old chocolate when it turns stale. I tried some of the chocolate and they were bitter and tasted like old stale chocolate. The melted ones I avoided entirely. They count each chocolate covered peanut as a separate piece of chocolate, so the "real" count is not accurate. The Whitman Sampler box itself is amazing and I'm sure if this was filled with fresh undamaged chocolate, I would have enjoyed it, but am sorely unhappy with it now. If just want the huge box as a collector item, just keep in mind the contents are garbage.

My mom got a kick out of getting such a large box of chocolates for Christmas. I knew all she wanted was the typical small size box from the store, but I couldn't help but over doing it!

I guess I am just greedy; but for that price, I thought it would be two levels! But very tasty chocolates, and the huge box is quite a sight for little kids who come in to say Hi! That googly eye look is worth the price I must say!

Good tasting chocolate, but not much product for the money. I do not recommend this 40oz box to anyone. Perhaps Whitman's Chocolates, which I do enjoy, may offer a different package that offers more value.

Most everyone loves whitman's samplers. The "normal" sized box is a nice, pleasant gift to receive in a family with kids. To get a great big oversized box.........well, there were smiles on everyone's face. And, no one could figure out what the gift was until it got opened.
