Beatrix Potter the Complete Tales (Peter Rabbit)

The book is much bigger than I expected and is absolutely stunning! It is nicely packaged and handled with care. My toddler loves the beautiful illustrations and is obsessed with the book. Highly recommended.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A timeless treasure for quiet days We've had this book for months now! This edition of The Tale of Peter Rabbit is everything I hoped it would be—charming, sturdy, and beautifully printed. The classic story still carries its quiet magic, and the small details in the illustrations continue to delight with every page turn. We added it to our daughter’s little library, and even though she’s young (2 years old), she’s already drawn to the softness of the colors and the curious bunnies in their garden coats.

The Beatrix Potter tales reach so many levels in people of all ages. My son is reading the tales to his one year old who just loves the sound of a voice linking with the most magical illustrations, the rhythmic cadences of storytelling laying the best foundations for a future love of reading. To adults, the tales evoke their own magical memories of bedtime reading and family sharing and the tales are so delightful: animals who think and speak like humans, each with his or her own idiosyncrasies and characteristics. Ever child or adult has a favourite! Mine is Mrs Tiggywinkle, perhaps because the name is so comical or because hedgehogs were a common visitor to our garden in the countryside. And the idea that a hedgehog could don a crisp white apron and lay laundry on garden slopes, comes from a brilliant, creative mind. Beatrix Potter UNDERSTOOD and empathized with animal life. As for her drawings and paintings, they are exquisitely delicate and so wonderful in placing the full characters on the page. It us not surprising that so many children’s bedrooms are filled with images from the tales. I bought my first grandson the entire set in individual books. I love that I have been able to buy them all in one volume for my fourth grandchild whose father’s eyes lit up with the warmth of his own childhood memories.

Beatrix Potter The Complete Tales is a good read. I’ve been rereading some of my favorite children’s stories that I read during my preteen and teen years. As a middle-aged guy I enjoyed revisiting Beatrix Potter The Complete Tales, Charlotte’s Web, Winnie the Pooh The Complete Tales, Dinotopia, Treasure Island, Watership Down and The Wind in the Willows as much, maybe even more, than I did as a kid. All classics. I’d shelve the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, with this group of classic children’s stories too, but not the other books. The Harry Potter series changed from a fun, lighthearted, children’s story in the first book, about 309 pages, to a darker, longer, young adult series, with an average page count above 700 pages after book three. I’m a sampler. I haven’t seen any of the movies from the following series, but I did read the first books, Twilight, Outlander, Fifty Shades of Grey, Divergent, etc. I sample a lot of first books, but I don’t read many complete series. The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, and The Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) series by George Martin are a couple of exceptions. Other sci-fi and fantasy authors I like include Douglas Adams, Isaac Asimov, Paolo Bacigalupi, Jack Campbell, Arthur C. Clarke, Earnest Cline, Abe Evergreen, Robert A. Heinlein, Hugh Howey, Larry Niven, Patrick Rothfuss, Brandon Sanderson, John Scalzi, and Andy Weir.

This is such a beautiful book, printed on high quality paper, with fine resolution for the watercolor prints. Also, there are some beautiful heretofore unpublished pieces by Potter at the end which are charming. Beatrix Potter’s books are timeless. For someone unaccustomed to children’s literature from a hundred years ago, you are in for a treat! Beautiful pictures, interesting and humorous stories filled with charm and wit! Such a contrast to the ugly and primitive artwork so popular in children’s books today! Also, the story lines are not out to propagandize children, boost self-esteem, give a “message;” rather, they are just lovely stories, tales well-told, often with the main character getting into some kind of trouble but managing to get out of it, either with help or through his or her own determination and intelligence (or luck). These books are good for toddlers on up—- our kids love them year after year.

The book came in a sturdy box, and had a beautiful dust cover. The font was large, the pictures were colorful and beautifully whimsical. It has every story she wrote. The paper was thick....not flimsy. I am SO HAPPY with this book. I can't wait to read it all. What a delight! Buy it. You'll not regret it!
