I love half of it, the other half is only good for looks, but the half I love, I really love! The nibs fit perfectly in the wooden handle, but the feather pen keeps falling apart. Only the two nibs without the slits are for the feather part, but since the metal holder won't stay on the feather, it was hard to write with it. I think the nib isn't supposed to be pushed into the holder very far, but if it isn't pushed in far enough, it falls out, and if the nib is pushed in too far, the whole thing falls into three pieces. So I say, just keep the feather for looks, and use the wooden handle. Because that part is great!I just wrote a several-page letter to a friend with this set. I even used the ink, although others have complained about it. I really have no problem with the ink, other than I'm not fond of brown. I kept the nib at a slight angle, and did as instructed, tapped the excess ink off against the bottle, and truly, I had no trouble with it at all. A friend of mine has a lovely quill pen that she bought somewhere (sadly, not Amazon), and hers works perfectly. I might try again for a real quill pen, but I might decide I'm enjoying the wooden handle too much and call it good.

I see a lot of reviews about this product with people saying its not a good product... It's my first quill set and I must say I love it. Yeah the plastic piece slips off easily. But with a tiny amount of super glue around the top there is no movement at all. Sure the nibs don't fit in at first. If you bend them they fit in perfectly and haven't had any of them fall out or slip because if the traction between the two. The reviews about this product are harsh and they also make me laugh. It sounds like most of the reviewers want an authentic quill pen from the 17th century for $20 and when one little thing happens they shun it and say its bad. It's only $20 people of course it's not going to be perfect. But I must say that for it being my first quill pen I absolutely love it. It's writes beautifully and it easy to hold and it just perfect! I love writing letters with it and if I had to I would chose the same one all over again! If something doesn't work use your imagination to fix it! You want authentic go buy a time machine and go get one. All these reviewers need more creativity obviously to fix the 2 extremely minor issues with this because mine works just fine after those quick 2 second fixes. GREAT PRODUCT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PEN AND INK!!

I was interested in doing something different for a personal note and wanted it to have an 'old time feel' to it. I saw other cligraphy sets online starting but didnt want to spend a huge amount of something that i may not enjoy. But when this finnally came in the mail i had a new found appreciation for all those who came before us who wrote volumes with carefully practiced penmenship. I would notrecommend this set to anyone but a beginner like my self. After some practice with each of the nibs provided i found one that I liked. The feather quil is not amazing quality but it gets the job done. The jar of ink can become messy due to the jar & lid's design.

This was a great purchase. The item itself was exactly like the one in the picture. Although the ink was a bit more red than i would have imagined, it has been a very nice product none the less. The feather itself is a bit weak though, but i think a thicker feather would have made this product more expensive. The best part of this purchase is that I received it about two days after i ordered it.

Received this and as soon as I opened it, I was disappointed. The wood pen was as mentioned above, painted black and was quite chipped - it looked used. At the bottom near where you insert the tip had small holes almost like something was removed. The feather is not secure to the metal base and falls out, none of the tips fit in the feather pen and only some fit in the wooden one. The ink is more like rust water than effective ink. Please move on to another product. I know I will.

It's ok.... kinda what you'd expect from an old style instrument that nobody uses anymore:) Daughter played with it for 2 minutes and will probably be at Salvation Army by next Christmas.

pretty worthless really..its really messy and leaves you scared to death of a large ink stain somewhere. I'm sure anyone using a pen like this in times of old would have thrown it right in the trash. Its nice to look at but ends there..

I should of read the reviews before I hastily bought this box of junk. Total, utter junk. I hate it some much I won't even bother to return it. I shall burn it come winter, ink and all.Seriously though, the nibs were bent and did not fit into the pen or the feather. The ink was trash.DO NOT BUY THIS! AMAZON REMOVE THIS ITEM FROM YOUR STOCK, IT IS WORTHLESS.
