Is the keypad supposed to stay light up all the time that's what mine is doing? I would think it would light up when a key is pressed.

It is intended to be illuminated all the time.

Which of the wires do I connect to the terminals of the door button inside the garage to use this unit as a garage door opener?

I struggled with this for a long time but it does work perfectly. If you just want to use it as a push button (just push the bell button to open), use the two pink wires. You might try this first just for fun. If you want to use the key pad, use the blue and purple wires. Don't forget that after you enter the code (the instructions are not too bad for this), when you use the key pad, you need to push the pound key after you enter the code. That through me off for a while too. Finally, the unit works great with cards that can be purchased for a low price on Amazon, so you open the door without having to enter any numbers.

Can I hardwire this to operate standard a garage door opener?

I tried that but couldn't get it to work ..get a battery operated one .. I did ..

Great solid product! Highly reccomended.

Needed a new keypad for our gate control. Searched and picked this one! Arrived quickly and I was very impressed with the solid heavy metal construction, very nice. Great back lite keypads that beep as you push them. Bright blue in color with a red or green light above for operation. Great installation and easy enough programming. Loved the 12 or 24 volt operation. Highly recommend this keypad!
