Very accurate and consistent!
I wanted to buy a caliper to use at home. After reading reviews, I was concerned by some cheap digital caliper you can get for 20 bucks. A lot of complaints on "not returning to zero", and "inconsistency". After reading reviews on Anytime Tools dial caliper, I decided to give it a try. Some reviews said it is very accurate, and one review even check the consistency between inch and millimeter. After receiving this product, I feel the sliding is not as smooth as Mitutoyo I always used at work. But it works fine. When I closed it, the black inch hand and red metric hand coincide with each other. This is very important. You can adjust the dial plate to make them read zero, but if they do not coincide, you can do nothing. The thumb wheel (again, not perfectly smooth) enables me to get zero repeatedly. I brought it to work and checked its accuracy with gauge pins. With .169" pin, it reads .169" exactly, and metric reading is 4.29 mm. The expensive Mitutoyo reads .1680"/.1675". With .268" pin, this caliper gives .268" and 6.81 mm reading. The metric value for .268" should be 6.807 mm. Each graduation on metric on dial is 0.02 mm. The metric hand is between 6.80 mm and 6.82 mm, and it is about 1/3 over 6.80 mm. So the inch/mm conversion is extremely reliable. Again, Mitutoyo reads .2670"/.2665". I think I should consider the gauge pin accurate, then Mitutoty reads .001" to .0015" less than the pin. Anytime Tools caliper is a winner! I also compared length of the gauge pin, Mitutoyo reads 2.0060", and Anytime Tools reads 2.008". So both are very consistent with 1 to 2 thousandth difference. I haven't checked internal measurement yet, but I feel there is no reason to question it given its performance compared to Mitutoyo. I am a mechanical geek, and I know a traditional dial caliper, if well built, is as good as a digital one. Comparing to digital caliper, you will not be able to "zero" it at any reading and measure the difference. And there is no way to export the reading, as some digital calipers do. But for regular daily uses, it is a very good tool, accurate and affordable. You can use it anytime you want without worrying about dead battery. It is truly Anytime!

Perfectly fine calipers.
I noticed this cool looking caliper had some pretty bad reviews... And some pretty good reviews. I decided to try it out and I think I got a pretty good deal. This thing arrived today, April 22, 2021. I'm not a machinist or anything like that so I tried to make a video to help y'all out. I think the bad reviews were just duds, or maybe even use error, because mine seems to be very nice for 36 bucks. I don't know anything about dial calipers but my old digital ones were acting up and I got sick of having to zero it out before every measurement. I just didn't trust it enough not to. And so I got this and I think it's great. It's mechanical so the measurement can't possibly be off. Plus it just feels cooler. I did loosen the two set screws on top to loosen the slide up a bit. It wasn't too tight but I like it better looser. I didn't notice any difference in the function. If I introduced a little slop I can't tell and don't really care. It's more than accurate enough. As you can see in the video it lines up at zero very reliably. I measured a 16mm Miutoyo gauge block, the 2 inch side of a 123 block, and the side of a mini anvil thing. It can be hard to hold calipers perfectly. The slightest angle or twist can throw them off. And the phone in my face didn't help but I think I did it good enough for you to see it's accurate. The jaws are perfectly flat and parallel. If I didn't know there were gears on the inside I would never guess. Can't feel or hear them. I bet the gears are pretty complex too. What else... The thumb wheel is very smooth. Cons: The lens is plastic. I'm not sure how to take it apart. I'll have to watch a YouTube video. All in all I'm pretty happy. I'm sure a professional should skip this one and pay 2 or 3 hundred but for me it's so cool to have such a cool looking and precise tool. I say these are way better than digitals. No fuss no hassle, just measure, easy as a ruler. I'll be sure to update if anything happens. Thanks. Update: I've been playing with it a lot and have gotten comfortable with it. I took the battery out of my digital and stored it away. I compared them to the digital a lot measuring feeler gauges and various objects. It can measure one thousandth of an inch accurately. It measures cigarette cellophane at one thousandth. And held up the light, when open to .001 or even .0005 you can see rainbow colors come through and the slit is perfectly parallel. It's very well machined. I watched YouTube videos how to disassemble and you simply pop the top bezel off. Then remove the hands and face and there are screws. I didn't go past popping the bezel off. There's a beveled white ring in there to hold the face down. It was just tight enough to be secure but not hard to remove. One of the videos was a Miutoyo and even it had a plastic lens so I guess that's normal! Shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement if it ever broke. The depth measurement seems to be accurate. Long review but I think it's worth it because having calipers this nice for $36 is just awesome. I take care of it like it cost $200. Common sense tells you that a Miutoyo or starett would be nicer but to be perfectly honest idk how they could be. I'm sure the steel is polished better but other than that? Idk... Maybe they look and feel smoother, but it's obvious that modern manufacturing has gotten to a point where high quality accurate precise dial calipers are accessible to anyone. Pretty impressive. So I recommend giving these a try before you invest hundreds of dollars in big name brands with big reputations. Thanks a lot. Update: lot of likes on this review. Purchase in April 2021, now June 2024. Happy to report they're still working good! I try to keep them indoors and use cheaper ones for stuff like woodworking but I did get sawdust all over these a couple times and just blew it all out. Good to go!

Great Caliper for the Price
I really like these calipers. They do everything I need a caliper to do. They feel sturdy, like they'll last decades. They dial gauge is easy to read in both inches and mm, and it's easy to zero out. The only knock I would give these, is a $150 caliper is going to feel better in the hand and slide a little smoother. Don't misunderstand, these slide well and are easy to move in increments of .001 inch at a time. And they do not feel bad in the hand, they just don't quite have that hand feel that makes you go, "Ahhhh, yeah," that most tools 3x the price would have. All that being said, 5 stars. These are great calipers, not even for the money, just great calipers. If you're looking for a budget caliper, one to knock around the shop at home, or just an accurate, easy to use, well crated tool, these are great!

The dial caliper has both metric and imperial readings which makes it very functional in my project shop. The readings compare well with some other measuring devices I already have. The rack has a very nice movement with just the right amount of tension, but glides easy to the touch. First impressions are very good, but as ever time will tell.

I had a digital caliper but it always seemed to run out of batteries at the wrong moment. This unit needs no batteries and if you take the time to learn how to use it properly, you'll wonder why you ever bothered with the digital unit. My engineer son admired it so much I had to buy one for him as well.
