how long does the clock last before u will have to rewind it?

don't know because the clock only ticks for about 30 seconds then stops.... not had a good look at it yet.

Do the parts have to be pressed out of a board risking breakage of the gearr?

The pieces are MOSTLY pre-cut, but you will almost certainly encounter "flash" or pieces that didn't get fully lasered through, and you'd better believe there's a risk of breaking the gear trying to correct it. The pieces are compressed plywood and very tough to cut, but easier to break when applying that kind of force to them. You will want to have tools on hand like a nailset, punch, fine drill bit or Dremel, or a heavy X-acto blade to deal with these situations if they arise, and they almost certainly will.

I bought this for my son for Christmas. He still cannot use it because we cannot find 5lbs of weight that will fit into the 1 3/4 x 7 3/4 weight tube

Pennies might be the cheapest. According to Google, 1 penny weighs 2.5 grams. 908 should be 5 lbs. Time is money :)

Dors this really work as a clock? Also a review said something about graphite. What is that for?

I use it as a real clock, It loses about 2 minutes a day due to the friction between gears, hence the graphite is to lubricate the gears and gear posts.
