It also had a a check-valve which I easily removed with needle-nosed pliers
I used this as a drop-in replacement for an 16-year-old one-speed Grundfos 59896125. The original 59896125 pump stopped working (didn't pump and was drawing 121W) at the same time I had my 75 gallon hot water heater replaced. The plumber said this must have been a coincidence. The new pump came with two rubber gaskets for the mating flanges. It also had a a check-valve which I easily removed with needle-nosed pliers, because I already have an external check valve in the downstream line. I made sure to prime/bleed the suction-side of the pump via the removable port (loosen with straight-edged screwdriver) in the center of the face plate before applying power to the pump. New pump has three speeds to allow me to choose the lowest power setting, setting 1, that will deliver hot water timely to each fixture in my house. The pump draws 63W according to my "kill-a-watt" meter on the slowest speed. This new pump has stainless steel flanges, so it appears to use better material than the pump it replaced.

To remove or not remove check valve
In the directions for installation there is a step that says remove check valve. I’m confused about this request. Directions do not say why to remove check valve which leaves me with the question, why ship the unit with a check valve in it in the first place????

Disappointed
Very disappointed, low performance compared to specifications and cross references, compared to prior pump of another brand. Tried a replacement, which was slightly worse. Such a shame as the materials of construction appear to be good.
