I've used the SlipX clear square mat for more than 5 years. If directions are followed, it's an excellent product that adheres well to a relatively smooth shower surface and, generally, looks great. Is there an odor when it is new? Yes, and it's easily dissipated when left outside in the sun for several days. The clear mat tends to "yellow" with time and cleaning the suction cups is not easy. In all other aspects it functions well and I replace it every year or so. 'Well worth the cost.

I do love the design of this mat. Being elderly, I need all the help I can get in the shower. I needed something that fit over the drain and still gave me security where I need to stand. I did follow the instructions to wet the shower with warm water and then placing the mat on the shower floor. I was then to step on or press down on the suction cups to secure the mat. Therein lies the problem as the suction cups were not big enough nor did they stick very well. They are rather small for the size of the mat. I also found the mat itself to be a little bit slick when its wet. And because the cups didn't stick, they would sometimes slide around as I moved. I don't think this mat is very safe and certainly not safe for the elderly. I will continue to keep it over the shower drain, but I'm going to keep the mat I was already using and make every effort to step on the old mat instead. Something might be better than nothing, but I'm going to have to be careful and secure my step before moving any further.

I bought this mat to fit my square shower floor, the drain is in the middle, and the floor slopes inward towards the drain. The floor also has those “river rocks” embedded into it. I am assuming that the previous owner added those for aesthetic purposes or to actually prevent slipping. Unfortunately, I had a cerebral stroke a few years ago, and while I do not have hemiparesis (paralysis) on either side, due to the brain surgery that they had to do; I have balance issues, to the point of needing a cane or walker in certain situations. The mat worked great! As long as I didn’t get soap on it. Once I did, it became slipper as snot. What is the purpose then??? Only If I can use it without soap? I almost fell several times, which would have not been pretty with the glass doors I have. The floor was actually less slippery once I removed the mat
