Great bread knife for professional kitchen work
I've been a cook for 10+ years, and I've worked in a wide variety of kitchens serving an equally wide variety of foods. Pros: -Relatively inexpensive: Serrated knives are great for a wide variety of jobs, but difficult to sharpen. Instead of worrying about sharpening an expensive serrated knife, I prefer to just buy an inexpensive one, use it until it's toast, then throw it away. -Relatively well-made: Pure Komachi's are much nicer and build and material quality than other cheap knives I've used (Dexter, Mundial, etc). The handle is plastic, it's partial tang, all of which would probably be knocks against it in the professional cook world, but the overall quality exceeds what I would expect from this price point. The plastic doesn't feel overly cheap, and the included sheath has never given me any problems. My current knife has remained sharp for well over a year of daily, high volume use, which indicates to me that it's made of good quality steel. -Very smart design: The way the serration "teeth" change direction halfway through the blade is a really cool design choice. I honestly can't tell you if it makes any real difference in it's cutting ability, but it probably doesn't hurt. The thin blade profile makes it very agile in the hand, and the bright orange paint job makes it very easy to find when you're busy. The included sheath has wide slats cut into it, which allows the blade to dry off if it happens to be a little wet when you put it away, which helps prevent rust spots. The sheath uses friction from a plastic clip to stay attached to the knife, and I've never had any issues with it, though I imagine it'd be fairly useless if that clip were to break. Cons: -Goofy looking as hell- It's definitely bright orange and looks like an Ikea knife. I've had more than a few coworkers mention that it looks like a toy, but then they use it and end up buying one for themselves. Aesthetics aren't everything. -BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU'RE PUTTING THE KNIFE BACK IN THE SHEATH- seriously, the opening for the sheath is very small and if you're putting it away in a hurry you run the risk of missing the opening and cutting yourself pretty badly. This isn't really a design flaw, more like an opportunity for user error. Overall, this is a great knife. I bought several other Pure Komachi knives (nikiri and chefs) for my parents, and I don't like them anywhere as much as I like their bread knife. I generally get about two and a half years of heavy, commercial kitchen use out of these before they get dull enough for me to want to get a new one, and once my current knife dies, I'll buy another one. Home cooks will probably never have to replace this once they buy one.

Great knife
Had a set of Pure Komachi knives from Costco and have damaged a few over the years. They are cheaper to replace than take to a professional sharpener. This knife is great - cuts bread easily. Wife also loves it for softly cooked meats. Serrated blade comes sharp and stays sharp. Easy to clean and comes with a nice sheath. Very happy with this!

Pure Komachi 2 Series are great, and their Bread Knife one of my favorite so far.
I was never a bread eater. So of course when my doctor asked me to switch to a carb restricted diet I naturally started to crave bread. He wants me to avoid a lot of the types of flour that are common in store bought bread. Wanting to appease my doctor I started making fresh homemade bread so I could control the types of flour I was bringing into my body. Problem was I had never cared about bread enough to invest in a decent bread knife, so the one I was stuck using was a Bread Knife I got in some low cost Knife set I got one year as a Christmas gift. So after having such huge success when I ordered the Pure Komachi 2 Series Chef Knife, I decided to try their bread knife. I must say this knife makes easy slicing. My favorite bread recipe so far has a real hard crust, and this knife has never left me down. I know its cliche, but it cuts like butter. I love how simple it is to cut thin enough slices so my kids still get their grilled cheese. I must say this is one of my favorite knife series at the moment. The price on these knives compared to their quality is unmatched. I hope they never stop making these knives in the quality they currently have, because they have something right with this series.

Nice looking knife. Came very sharp.
Arrived super sharp! The plastic handle doesn’t feel cheap and has a slight texturing for good grip. The handle is a little short though. Seems to be a good value, but haven’t tested it yet. Weirdly, one of the scallops is a different shape than the others. Took off one start for handle length and inconsistent scallops.

Still sharp
I bought this knife over a year ago, and it is still running strong. Don't let the low price fool you, this is a very well made knife. I am a baker and bake almost every day. From super soft white sandwich bread to uber-crusty sourdough boules, this knife has taken them all on. It's also my favorite for watermelon. I also like the wavy serrations. I was not sure I would as the knife this replaced had a very aggressive serration but it works very well, Just remember to let the knife do the work. If you force it the results will not be as good. The finish is durable and has not worn or chipped. I toss it in the dishwasher when it needs it, hand dry and store in a knife block. The bright colored handle makes it easy to find as well. No more pulling knives from the block to see it its the one I want. Speaking of the handle, It has a great fit to your hand, just enough tactile give to make it feel secure in your grasp. I have purchased other knives from this maker and have no problems with them either.

Can it do as advertised
I have a set of Cutco Knives purchased in 1966 - and they are still great, however I wasn't happy with their bread cutting knife. The reviews sounded good so I took a chance on this Komachi bread knife. I couldn't wait to cut into my latest loaf of home made bread. The knife performed perfectly; I didn't have to smash down the crust to cut all the way through. The price is great, too. I don't do many reviews, so when I do it's because I'm pretty impressed with the product. I will recommend this to anyone needing a great bread knife. And, I appreciate it coming with a protective sleeve which keeps it not only protected in my knife drawer, but safe for fingers, too.

DON'T LET THE FUN COLOR MISLEAD YOU -- KNIFE STAYS SERIOUSLY SHARP, even after 5 years!!
This knife has stayed very sharp after almost 5 years of frequent use and is highly recommended!! This knife slices through all types of bread quite easily, even dense, crusty bread from the farmer's market. The handle is quite comfortable. While this does not have the heft of a traditional knife, it does not feel flimsy and the handle is very comfortable. And it's so easy to clean; just put in the dishwasher (although the manufacturer recommends hand washing). I had initially purchased this (and a nearly completely set of these Pure Komachi knives) to keep my husband away from my "good" knives when he was making sandwiches, etc, and because I wanted inexpensive knives that I wouldn't feel guilty about running through the dishwasher -- but it turns out that I like "his" knives so much, I use them, too! When these knives first arrived, my husband called them "kiddie knives," because of the pretty colors, but be careful, because these are very sharp -- early on, I cut myself badly enough with the purple sandwich knife so that a Band-aid was inadequate and I needed Steristrips. My advice is to treat this knife as you would any super-sharp knife, because it is just as sharp as my professional quality-knives, even if it comes in a fun color and is not too expensive. Highly recommended!!

Great bread knife, bought a second one
Slices bread very cleanly, sharp and lightweight. You have to be careful with the cover, as with all knives, but the cover makes it very convenient to toss in a bag or drawer. I liked it so much I bought a second one for my workplace.
