Mediocre
This book was bought for a college class for my son; however, we were disappointed in the large amount of writing and highlighting in the book. Even for a used book, the amount of writing and highlighting was not adequately described.

Four and a half stars - great, but not perfect.
I like this anthology. It isn't perfect. Four-and-a-half stars. There are things omitted that I would put in, and I didn't much care for the introductory chapter (it seemed a bit too disjointed, making quantum leaps between religious traditions). That said, the rest of it really convinced me that it was a meaningful contribution to an introductory appreciation of world religions texts. This is a hard thing to do. Much of the time with these anthologies the excerpts are too small and meaningless, because the editor is trying to accomplish too much. Sometimes I think these books are even written to impress other scholars, not educate students (see what I was able to put in here!). I don't think that applies to this book after the first chapter. I think, having read this book carefully cover to cover, that there are quality contributions from various world religious traditions that will give introductory students a meaningful sample on which some discussion and knowledge can be built. It can work well as a companion text with Fisher's "Living Religions" Living Religions (9th Edition) , or stand on its own and be used with other texts.
