Kraft Vegemite 220g

It's not New Zealand Marmite but it is the next best thing. In fact it is what I happily grew up with in New Zealand until I abandoned the ways of my tribe and converted to Marmitism. Just happy that this antipodean culinary delight is even available to be delivered to me in Alaska. A miracle of modern logistics. Sadly NZ Sanitarium Marmite seems to be victim of the new trade barriers for now. Hopefully we will see it again soon.

I just absolutely love vegemite and can't find it in any local stores. So glad I could get my hands on it!

Use by date was good. Took a star off for the outrageous price.

I bought it even though it was very expensive at 22 CAD because I wanted to try it and wanted to know what all the fuss was about this product that the Aussies and Brits loved so much. I did a bit of research on the web first and had a good idea of what it tasted like. So after I tasted it, here's how I would describe the taste of Vegemite : a mix of molasse/beef bovril/soy sauce/strong espresso coffee. Very very very salty. I would not recommend to people with high blood pressure. Thick paste texture. The Brits and Aussies put a little on buttered toasted bread. I tried it like that first, even if I don't like butter. So then, I tried it on peanut buttered toast. Just a little bit on top of the peanut butter. Wow ! It enhances the taste of your peanut butter toast with a little tangy twist. I don't use it every day, but once in a while, it's a nice change. Vegemite is great, but it has to be used in moderation as the taste is so strong and very salty. The jar is very small, but it will last long since you just use so little at a time.

Could not find this at my local supermarket, so went to Amazon for this. All good.

I got a shelf life of seven months with mine, which isn't bad. I think it'll be fine for up to six months past the date. So all in all, enough time to go through the little bottle which is actually bigger than I thought it would be. A little goes a long way. It'll be really good with ryvita crisp bread.
