SABRENT USB 2.0 to DB25 IEEE-1284 Parallel Printer Cable Adapter [THUMBSCREWS Connectors] (CB-DB25)

A pre-20th Century IEEE parallel port connector to more recent USB variant is what you need if you have an old but built to last and still working well machine that needs one. In my case, a 1999, HP LaserJet 4050, high speed workhorse. After scrounging through HP’s Legacy driver pages, I found two that supposedly worked: postscript and native HP talk. Installed them both and the native driver worked no issues.

Used this to connect a very old HP LaserJet 4M. The old cable just stopped working, probably got damaged by my movers, but it appeared to be fine. The print job would act like it was working, but the printer would just flash and then nothing would happen. This cable solved the problem. Works just like it should. No more print issues. Quality is good.

I got this cable because I needed something to attach an external disk drive to my laptop. However, it did not carry power to the drive, like the previous cable did (which no longer works). So the cable is great, but did not meet my specific needs, which might require something other than a generic cable, but I no longer have the product documentation to tell me if that's the case. So I'm back to the drawing board.

Bad cable, out of the box. Box appeared to be a re-packaged item. Ordered another one anyway, the 2nd one worked just fine. Will NOT be sending the bad one back, this will save someone future problems. Cost of doing business in an on-line market, in today's world I guess....

I easily installed my Laserjet 4100 using the instructions provided by "dv" in these user comments. If dv's review is not one of the first reviews, then search in these reviews for "installation guide". (Amazon primarily lists reviews by recentness, and only secondarily by quality {stars}, so excellent reviews are quickly buried). dv's review is excellent, thank him with a thumbs up. > The product is just the cable in a cardboard box, no documentation. > The cable length is unspecified in the Amazon Listing, but was about 6' long. That might not be a good thing. Regardless of the driver I use, I occasionally get garbles (a symbol or letter, substituted for the correct letter). I think that it is because the cable is too thin and is unshielded -- in which case, a shorter cable may have been better. I tried hanging the cable from the wall behind my computer to physically isolate the cable from any other computer cables, and that seemed to reduce the rate of garbling. > Worked well for me. EL producto llegó correctamente. La longitud del cable es aceptable. Además, venía con un alargador USB que no he necesitado usar. Funciona a la perfección. Probada con una impresora de tickets de EPSON.
