I've tried multiple self watering systems, and this is the best! It is a large reservoir that has a part that you insert into the dirt. It has a clear indicator on the side so you can see how full the water is inside. The glass reservoirs never seem to work--they always clog up in some way and I notice days later that they are still completely full (and the plant is dry). I've had no problems with this one getting clogged by dirt or such. The only downside is that you must be able to put the plant up against a wall, since there is an unsightly large plastic green water reservoir otherwise. But for reliability, you can't beat it!

I've probably ordered a total of close to 100 of these, all for outdoor use in potted herb garden or citrus bushes. On some of the larger plants or thirstier plants I use 5-7 of them, smaller plant 3-4. Depending on time of year, I fill them once every 5-7 days.Do water the plants thoroughly first, then the containers, so the dry soil doesn't suck too much water from the get-go. In 2.5 years, I've only had to replace 2 which became brittle and cracked.

these actually work...i went away for 9 days and all plants survived, i did give the plants a good watering for the 2 days before i started using them.

This product works exactly as described. However, this item is really two pieces that screw together. The top part with the stake screws onto the tank. If not secured properly and not carefully moved, the tank and spike separate and water spills everywhere. I bought this for a large houseplant. However, because of its' construction will not purchase any more. I think this item is better suited to outdoor planters.

These have rescued my plants from starvation. I have a very thirsty lemon tree that's rewarding this purchase with 20 sweet lemons just ready for the drinks to be consumed on my porch this summer.

It provides just the right amount of water for potted plants.

Works as described. I wish it lasted longer. The reservoir dries up after a couple of days in super hot temperatures.
