I have used Knopp testers for years. They are better than the Wiggy brand or Klein brand. Simple, accurate and easy to use. Unfortunately, they are getting more expensive as they get lost or stolen easily.

I’ve been using this tester for 30 years. This is my 2nd one. No electronics, will tell you DC polarity, and rough voltage level. If you are looking to verify that power is on, you don’t need to look at it as it vibrates. The higher the voltage, the more it vibrates.

As an electrician, I have a few testers. Every electrican should have a solenoid style or "wiggy" tester. I like this one and usually toss it in my back pocket while on the job. This tester doesn't lie, no batteries to worry about, and I can trust my life with it.

In addition to much fancier (fluke) meters, use this to simply make sure that line I am working on is not carrying current. It's a simple job, but in the end, the most important electrical test I'll due in any given day. It's a dedicated tool, simple to use and to read, and it reminds me to start with checking for safety before going to the next step. I've had two of these (first one evaporated....) over about 10 years. Excellent.
