LinkStation SoHo 220 2-Bay Personal Cloud Office NAS 4TB (2x2TB) with Hard Drives Included

Good product and useful for sharing. with Microsoft torpedoing home file sharing, I had to do something to share files and photos with other PC's in the house. Thus this was the answer. It was straightforward to install and used without pass wording a share. However, I have not been able to put a password on the shares with any luck. Thus, me, wife, Mother-in-law and laptops have open access to all shares. I've put passwords on a share, but then it is inaccessible no matter whether it is me or any other computer in the house. I've exhausted every thing I could think of and even put the question on blog sites to no avail. Buffalo support is basically non-existent. The unit is still protected from the internet ok.

Always wanted a NAS and finally got this one. I am totally pleased with it's ease of set up and cost. I use it to keep photos, music sheets for printing and files for my 3D printer. It's get to be able to open files with every computer in the house. Purchased 7 months ago and had no issues.

I purchased this NAS to stream media to my house DLNA equipment, but the SoHo model doesn't support that feature, even though it says it's "DLNA Certified". I would recommend some data network experience to be able to program. It does look like a quality unit, customer support is top notch.

If you're thinking of buying one of these to use as network storage on a windows 10 or 11 system don't bother. it works great as NAS with win7, probably XP too. Spend your money on something that works like it's supposed to. Follow-up: One roadblock to registering the unit was that they want a photp proof of purchase. So I used snipping tool to get a screen shot, saved it as a jpeg file and selected the file on the registration page. Error message came back that the file type was not recognized, Tried 3 times, same result. opened a chat window for help and 'no one was available at this time. 11:30 Eastern or 15:30UTC. Go elsewhere, you'll thank me.

I acquired this NAS storage device when I upgraded my Wi-Fi from a 802.11ac router to a 802.11ax router. My older router had a port to which I had connected a USB 3 drive, but my newer router lacks a USB port. At first I was reluctant to get into a full-blown NAS system with its own software, because I've been totally satisfied with a plain old USB 3 drive attached to my network. I didn't see the point of spending hundreds of dollars, and began by looking for a USB-to-Ethernet converter to plug my USB drive into an Ethernet port of my new router. But then I found a refurbished BUFFALO LinkStation SoHo 720. At around $300 it seemed very reasonable because it included two 2TB drives that could be run in RAID 0 or 1 configuration. Other NAS systems typically require purchasing the disk drives separately. Some of the reviews I read indicated that the software was very basic and not too intuitive to use. But basic was all I wanted, and I did not find the software difficult to use at all. This NAS also has USB ports for attaching additional drives, so I do not have to lose the USB drive I had been using. Win-win-win all-around; I am very happy that I acquired the BUFFALO LinkStation SoHo 720.

It took me many months off and on to finally purchased this unit. I found setup manageable so far but it is not 100% finished with time being the limiter. It took me lead time to define in my mind what is it I really want. First, my wife and I have 20+ years of data that needed protection and numerous external units is just not the answer. Second, call me ill-informed but I do not trust ANY 3rd party cloud service. Third, I'm a believer in the K.I.S.S rule with a lockout of apps I don't need nor have to research if something is "safe" to install. It is a little noisy but it is at least 5' away from my desk in my comm closet so it isn't an issue for me. Possibly could have saved some money with a diskless solution but call me lazy I have just a single manufacturer's warranty to keep track of. I recommend this to any SOHO business who needs a data solution on the cheap and is maybe a little paranoid.

I bought this for the 2.5 GbE connectivity because I wanted better network throughput. It barely performs better than my older 100MbE Buffalo. It's not going to get anywhere near 1GbE speed so I don't know why they used a 2.5 GbE adapter. After trying to get an answer to the speed issue I have come to the conclusion that the CPU Buffalo uses is underperforming and not capable of that throughput.

I am using this device for my iMAC to backup using TimeMachine. TimeMachine runs constantly during the day and device is always available and works great. The device did come with some backlup software but it only works for Windows and nothing available for Apple. I did install the backup software on my Windows.laptop but have not used it yet as I simply copy my data from my Windows machine to my iMAC and let Apple TimeMachine perform all backups from the iMAC.

I didn't need to access this drive over the internet so it fit my needs. The reviews warned against using the on line access. It took a while to get my laptop to pick up the NAS but that was because of the complexity of my house network. I have two wireless networks in the house. Once I figured that out the directions became clearer. My laptop is hardwired to the network. Getting my wife's PC to find it using wireless was easier once I got it on the correct wireless network (the router wireless network). It may not be easy for someone with no computer or network knowledge. If you are connected with CAT5 or 6, or wireless, refer to Hardware Installation picture 4 to keep everything on the router network.

Replaced a similar unit after years of use, easy to use, very reliable.

Using this as a media drive for the different HTPCs I have in the house and it works perfectly! Came installed with two 4TB Western Digital Blue (IMO decent quality drives) hard drives. I changed the config so instead of configured as RAID 1 they're two distinct drives on the network giving me the full 8TB. The Buffalo NAS utility is lightweight and has no impact on system performance, installs easily and recognizes the drives without issue. The NAS itself performs well when wired to the router and the HTPCs connecting through WIFI. No buffering issues even with 4K video.
