Cut the cable clutter and setup time
This little unit solves a lot of problems for me. This pedalboard is obviously homemade. In fact it used to serve as a door for one of my kitchen cabinets until we remodeled. Pretty robust 3/4 ply! It’s heavy, but it doesn’t move around. The two levels allowed me to put cables and power supply under it. Originally I had some short pigtails sticking out for the Vocalist pedal, the looper and power. While this worked, it was clunky and a pain to set up and put away (in the 1980s suitcase) because they tended to fall under the board. In fact this caused one of the XLRs to get squished a bit recently. Enter this thing. I considered building pretty much exactly this a while back, but it was costly, time consuming and I was lazy!! I came across this somehow and was wowed. I know it’s technically a drop in for their pedalboards which really looks clean, but it would work in my application. Lo and behold here it is. Connections are now easily accessible. No fighting pigtails anymore. Soopah!! Two small gripes. 1. I realize this faceplate is made for the setup on their boards, but in my application it made it really difficult for it to catch meat to hold it in place. It’s too close to the box behind it and the holes were too small for any screws I had. But whatever. It works. 2. Using a female IEC plug on the input on the back. This is stupid. If you don’t know what I mean about IEC, I mean it’s a computer plug. But female. So you have to have a female standard 110 to female IEC adapter to use the plug in. Why not just either include this adapter, or physically attach it permanently with a standard female 110 on it? So it required me buying one. No biggie. Just irritating considering that’s an unusual piece and you can’t just buy one locally. I gotta say this makes my life so much easier now. I don’t have to sort out which pigtail does what or deal with that wiring mess. Vocal in, two out, pedalboard in and out and even the looper on the 3rd one. Plug and go! Putting it up i just disconnect the IEC, the xlrs and 1/4 cables, set it in the case and dude…done! Brilliant! Couldn’t be happier. Good value too versus building one from scratch.
