Game changer
Excellent lens. I have the 16mm and 30mm 1.4 lens which have turned the M50 into a camera which can now produce quality photos.

SIGMA saved the EF-M Mount
No matter the camera everyone needs a 50mm or "nifty fifty" equivalent focal length, its a jack of all trades. Bought this for my Canon EOS M6 II mainly because there are few lenses that do the 32MP resolution justice. The lens gives great separation and delicious depth of field at f/1.4 even on a cropped sensor camera. With the f/1.4 aperture its a king in low light and holds up well. Never have you had to worry about sharpness from a SIGMA lens, its on point throughout the aperture range. Chromatic aberration is barely present in most images, but easily removed in Lightroom later if needed. Autofocus is equally comparable to the speed of the Canon equivalent lenses, absolutely no issues with tracking or accuracy. I couldn't fault this lens. Even though its the mid-sized lens out of the 3 SIGMA Prime line up, it honestly does not feel large or uncomfortable in reality. Don't waste your money on the Canon equivalent that is nearly twice the price, you're in good hands with SIGMA. I'll be investing in the SIGMA 56mm f/1.4 very soon.

Excellent except for strong purple fringing
Great lens, wide aperture, autofocus, got it all. Just suffers from awful purple fringing in some conditions.

Cheap but Disappointing Wide Open
I've given this a 3 star rating but it's a 2.5 at best in reality. I also own the 56mm version of this lens which is infinitely superior to the 30mm in my opinion. I want to say Sigma dropped the ball with this lens but I need to be fair and take the price in to consideration, The good points Build quality: Feels good and solid without being to weighty in fact it's fairly well balanced on my M50 can even shoot single handed without it feeling front heavy. Autofocus: Probably one of this lens's strong points it's very fast and responsive and performs better than most in low light too. Sharpness: It's sharp even at f/1.4 in the centre but the edges are pretty soft, improves at f/2.8 Price: I paid £249 and that's cheap for an autofocus f/1.4 lens can't argue with that. The bad Points Image Quality Wide Open: As stated above the lens is sharp but at f'1.4 the purple fringing around the edges is awful it's worse than you'd expect from a kit lens wide open. It renders this lens useless wide open in high contrast situations. Summary Most photographers choose a fast lens to shoot wide open or close to wide open unfortunately this lens suffers horribly with fringing which doesn't start going away until around f/2.8. So unless you want to spend hours editing then this isn't the lens for you. I very nearly sent it back but I can live with it as the widest I normally shoot is around f/2.8. Is it value for money? That's pretty subjective because the selling point of a f/1.4 lens is it's wide aperture and as discussed it's pretty horrible. But it is cheap and from f/2.8 it's a pretty damn good lens so there's a trade off. If I had borrowed this lens I would definitely not gone on to purchase it. Now that I have I will reluctantly keep hold of it and use it to it's strengths. The 56mm version is much much better than the 30mm.

Economical lens for canon efm range.
I like the flexibility that shooting wide open gives with your light settings. 30 mm is equivalent to 48 mm full frame which is very close to nifty fifty territory. Weight wise I can use easily on either a canon M50 or M100 on a gimbal - in my case a zhiyun crane v2 and it will not overload the system. It focuses fast. I bought this from the warehouse and it came as described.

I bought this lens for my Canon M50 and I couldn’t be happier with it. I’ve owned it for a couple months now so thought I would share some thoughts. ———Image Quality——— The image quality out of it is fantastic! It’s pin sharp, colors are vivid and bright, and the f/1.4 is incredibly nice to shoot with at this focal length (you get some insane bokeh). The only downside I’ve found with this lens is it does have chromatic aberration wide open, but this is easily fixed in Lightroom if your shooting RAW (I believe the camera takes care of it if you shoot JPG). The focal length on a crop sensor like my M50 make this lens essentially a 50mm lens which is a great everyday length to shoot with. It can get a bit cramped sometimes indoors but it forces you to re-think your composition a bit which I actually enjoy. ———Build Quality——— Lens came with a lens hood, which was a welcome surprise and the build quality of the lens itself is really top notch. The focus ring is buttery smooth (honestly, its the smoothest focus ring I’ve ever used) and the lens itself is a decent weight, makes the M50 feel really good in the hand. The lens is metal and so I have no worries about its build quality, its honestly probably more durable than the camera lol. ———Summary——— For the price you can’t go wrong with this lens, it stays on my camera all the time now and I am loving the shots I’m getting with it. If your on the fence, do yourself a favor and just buy this lens, you will not regret it!

The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is a great option for someone who wants a lens that can create beautiful portraits and also have a nice standard focal range for shooting other subjects like landscapes or sports. Build quality, ergonomics, autofocus, image quality, and value are all impressive on this lens.
