Excellent for violin varnish
A superior, consistent colored, and clean rosin that is ideal for making good violin varnish. This rosin melts quickly and blends well with artist grade cold-pressed linseed oil.

It works as incense
I noticed negative reviews in regards to using this product for incense after i ordered it. This species of pine colophony is different from the other colophony ive had yet it is still good. This type has a pine needle/ sap fragrance more than a citrus it is suttle at first but last long after the smoke clears. Colophony like copal melts into a liquid when placed on coal so you have to use a tiny bit at a time or you will put the coal out and it will not smoke. So only use a tiny chip on coal and wait until the smoke stops before adding more. If it melts and doesnt smoke that is because too much is on the heat source at once. This mixes well with palo santo wood chips, cedarwood and sandalwood.

Great for beeswax wrap- hard to work with
I bought this specifically to make beeswax wrap and it works wonderfully and for a good price. I gave this a 4 star rating for a couple reasons. When trying to open the bag, the top ripped very easily, but the seal works well so it’s not a big deal. One of the pieces has a gray side which I don’t believe is a part of the actual resin because no other pieces look like it. When melting this product, as I’m sure all resins are- it takes an extremely long time and I had crushed the pieces into powder for easier melting, but when they got hot they actually just stuck together into a glob so no matter how you start it will take a while. I am really happy with how it made my wrap sticky. I would advise covering all surfaces, wearing gloves and using materials that you don’t care about when working with this as it is super sticky and hard to get off of any surface.

It is shipped from the USA hence not lost in shipping.
The product was purchased to manufacture natural oil varnish for violins. This requires the melting and amalgamation of a couple of plant resins with linseed oil and thinned with gum spirits of turpentine. There are many recipes for this but this one works at lower and safer temperatures. These ingredients are all flammable. Should not be attempted by inexperienced individuals.

Works and Smells Great
I bought this to make my husband mustache wax, beard balm, and soap. I used varying degrees of rosin for each product. I was worried that because the crystals were very hard and brittle that they would not melt. All the crystals melted in a double boiler within a few minutes and had no issues melding with the butters and oils once hardened. The wax had the most rosin and kept it just sticky enough. The soap had the least but I used the rosin as an emulsifier. Has a great pine scent but I actually expected it to be a little stronger so I had to add cedar oil.
