This older version of Star Wars Legion is among my top table top miniature-based games of all time. This system is super fun to play not only for the wonderful miniatures with nostalgic table presence, but also for the relatively straightforward rules allowing for relatively speedy game turns. Building your army with cards and miniatures is a fun choice space, Simpler than Warhammer games, yet enough crunch to pull even seasoned war-gamers in. It’s infinitely replayable with perhaps just a few extra minis or vehicles just to add variety, if you want to buy them. It comes with a lot of minis from both the Empire and Rebellion in this box so you don’t have to buy anything more if you don’t want to in order to have a great time. You’ll need to explore the right kind of glues for the miniatures as they aren’t the same kind of plastic as Warhammer minis. I use a flexible super glue (not the brittle kind) which seems to do ok. Photos include other models and terrain we have added to the game not included in the base set.

Incredible value. This is another hit for the amazing Fantasy Flight games team. The miniatures are highly detailed and a joy to paint up. The rule set is their best yet and really gives you a gradual introduction into the complexity of miniature gaming. Just the core set is enough to have a small-scale experience. I would have dinged it a star for not including more dice, but for the price, you are already getting a lot and most other company's miniatures 2 player sets (looking at you 40k) have the same number of minis for twice the price. Component Quality: The plastic used for the minis to my mind is better than the brittle plastic for 40k or other table top miniature games. The minis are easy to put together and most are only 2-3 pieces that easily fit in together. Unlike other games, you won't have to hold the glue together after you glue them. The tokens and range measuring tools are typical high quality stuff from Fantasy Flight. The tokens are on heavy cardboard and easy to punch out. The rulers have great little details that make them look like Star Wars ship/droid components. Gameplay: I will need to update this later, but from my first impressions, there is a good amount of depth and decisions in every battle. I love that each scenario offers different conditions and the command cards really mix up the activations between players (many other games are "I go, you go" with a die roll for priority, but Legion gives you options to trade off priority for more activations and adds more strategic depth). I was amazed at how easy the game is to pick up just from the learn to play rules. And everything you need to know about a unit is on the card that comes with it. You will rarely find yourself hunting through the rule book to figure out how to activate your unit. Summary: This game is definitely more on the hobby side for miniature games (eg you will need to build and paint your minis), but it is manageably so. There are plenty of great painting tutorials out there and with painting shades/oils, it has never been easier to get into miniature painting. Star Wars Legion is a solid entry to the miniature war game front, and I can easily see it overtaking other major games due to the ease of entry and lower price point. I expect there will be a strong tournament and casual scene for this game. This core box is the perfect starting point and offers a lot of fun with just its components.

As a lifelong Star Wars fan and miniature painter, I consider Imperial Assault and its expansions. The base game is a masterpiece—deep in strategy, rich in narrative, and visually stunning with its high-quality miniatures. I’ve built most of my collection through the Fantasy Flight Game Center here in Minnesota, which is a fantastic place to play, paint, and connect with other gamers. Their support for the Star Wars universe and the tabletop community is second to none. If you’re into tactical combat, immersive campaigns, or simply love Star Wars, this game will blow you away. It’s not just a game—it’s a full experience.

If you love star wars and you love table top games you NEED this.

I bought 2 of these, for my son and myself to paint. They were easy to assemble, well detailed but without being overwhelming and fun to paint. I will say that the stance of this model is a little weird. I prefer the one in the base starter set but the model is still awesome and the impression of movement is pretty great.

Really good game for miniature and Star Wars lovers alike.

The Wookiee warriors are an awesome special forces for the rebel faction. There great overcing difficult terrain and close quarters combat. They are also easy to assemble. Only thing with painting them I found was decorating their armour. 100% would recommend especially if you play the rebels faction.

Just for painting practice.... Always wantedto paint Chad Vader's brother.
