Great Guide
This is a very in-depth guide to Jordan. It clearly lists important places to visit, and even contains great information about weather and clothing. I would recommend using Travel Guide whenever you travel to another country.

Great book for kindle use!
Very comprehensive travel manual that is easy to use on a Kindle. Looked up each sight as we approached to get some good background. Everything checked out with our tour guide who was impressed with my knowledge. The picture on the front looks exactly like Petra by Night!

Good Travel Guide
I took this book to Jordan with me and it was my favorite guide. It was in good shape and arrived quickly.

I chose the Kindle e-version for easier and lighter access but maps were poor
Disappointing access to maps which needed wifi and then had poor definition and couldn't be enlarged. I found the maps in the Footsteps Travel Guide more helpful. Amman is notorious for having different versions of street names and Google maps of Amman don't provide many street names anyway so more help from LP would have been good. Although Lonely Planets says that many people speak English, I haven't found that to be the case with taxi drivers even less likely and most unable to relate to tourist maps. Outside Amman the guide was interesting and helpful.

Accurate, Ready for Another Edition
The information in this easy-to-carry guide book is excellent, I like that the writer so obviously loves Jordan. The photos and descriptions of places give a good sense of what there is to see, and why one should go to any given place. Our Jordanian driver listened in while I read descriptions of various historical places to my travel buddy--I could see him mentally taking notes. It took a bit of flipping around to match maps with information on the maps to pull it together to get someplace. The writer repeatedly said that merchants and drivers would be, for the most part, kind and honest. That was true, for the most part, but there were still some sharpies. That's true every place I've ever been, so perhaps the frequent assurances were designed to reassure travelers who had preconceived ideas about the risks of traveling in the Middle East. The one additional point I'd add about taxi drivers is that they often do not speak English, so ask first or have an Arabic speaker on speed dial to help get you where you want to go. This edition came out in 2012, and it already needs an update. There's a building boom underway in Jordan as of May 2013 (it's been on for a while, I suppose), so there are more options--restaurants, hotels, etc--than were listed in the 2012 version, already.

Worth it
This book was helpful but I understand the update will be coming out in Sept 2013, but until then this was a helpful reference.

I travelled to Jordan in April 2013 (two weeks ago). I had bought this guide and my friend bought the Rough Guide series. I think both are really helpful and contain lots of practical information. Sometimes, they complement each other. Well, you cannot have everything and if some information is missing from either of the guides, it will not spoil your travel anyway. We had planned our trip according to this guide's suggested itinerary: Seven Days Amman to Aqaba Return with a slight modification - we did not go to Amman, instead we went straightaway from the airport to our hotel in Madaba (just to save time). But the itinerary was a good choice and it was well worth trying. What I liked particularly about my Lonely Planet guide was that in Jordan we met two people mentioned in it! One of them we met in Petra. His name was Bdoul Mofleh, 'one of the last residents of Petra', who lives in his cave home (yes, I have his autograph!). Thanks to this meeting the book has become a more personal souvenir for me. The other man we met and who is mentioned in the guide is Ahmed - the owner of Wadi Rum camp 'Rum Stars' where we travelled too. The guide contains a short interview with him. This is why this book is a winner for me. Apart from that, you will find lots of useful information. The only thing please pay attention to is the prices. But this is understandable as the guide was written some time ago. For instance, a mini bus from Petra to Wadi Rum now costs 7JD. The only thing that could be improved in all Lonely Planet guides is the maps (esp. city plans). They are much better in the Rough Guide series. Overall, an excellent and very well written guide. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to spend a great time in Jordan.

mit einigen kleinen Fehlern im Text, auf Karten, dennoch sehr brauchbar. Grafik und Layout sind sehr freundlich, das Buch ist sehr robust.

Very good book, complete and gives advices about places that people do not usually hear about. Only disappointment about the food section. No advice for vegetarians or vegans on where to eat, we got extremely scared going there that we wouldn't find anything to eat
