Metal Clay for Jewelry Makers: The Complete Technique Guide

Excellent book describing many metal clay techniques. Keep in mind that this is not a projects book - you won't find step-by-steps. You will find good information that will spark your creativity and desire to explore. I think it is a very good book for beginners since it answers a lot of questions about how to do things - forming, using the different types of clay, adding components, polishing, stone setting, creating bails, and incorporating glass, resins, polymer clay, enamels, etc. Coverage is basic, but clear and would be enough to get you started. This is an older book so some of the clay info is outdated, but that does not diminish the value of the book as a resource. The book I purchased was used, and it was in very good condition with no inside marks.

Just got this book and I can already say it is one of the most comprehensive, informative and clearly written books I own. From the very beginning it lays out what you need and why, what you can use that you have in place of pricey purchases, exact amounts, uses and firing times and techniques for every brand and type of clay as well as simple troubleshooting to ensure success in this fascinating medium! Each step of the way is a clear photo with explanation of technique which is great for many learning styles. I know with the detailed explanations I do not need to be afraid to move forward and actually USE those precious packages of metal clay I have purchased!! There are also sections detailing working with paper sheets of metal clay, combining clays, 3D projects and assemblage, beautiful lockets, and so many projects to get your creativity to the next level. I'm thrilled and I'm sure you will be too!!

This is a beautifully compiled book. The pictures and examples are wonderfully arranged and very clear. The book offers an excellent description of various clay types, their pros, cons, and uses which is helpful for a beginner trying to understand what type of material to purchase. The organization of this book into projects (rings, lockets, hinges, beads, etc) is also very well done. Each section provides an introduction, materials needed (the book covers all tools and materials in the intro), and steps to take to work through various projects. I especially appreciated the sections on maintaining, reworking, and recycling clay. These are important steps when working with clay in general and it's great the authors start with these fundamentals.

This book is FANTASTIC. Great photos, techniques, tricks and technical information for designing and firing metal clay. It answered a lot of questions I had concerning firing in a kiln, combining different metal clays and adding fine silver loops, findings to your pieces before firing. There are a lot of great designs for inspiration as well. I highly recommend this book!

Honestly it’s hard to find a good book with plenty of detail and each area on this subject with pictures and descriptions. This book is great and it shows you how to do various techniques to get you started or dive deeper into how to use metal clay in jewelry making. Really enjoy this book and refer to it.

This is a great book! It covers a ton of methods of working with metal clays and metal clay papers including some slick tricks for doing 2 tone metal finishing! Very much worth the cost.

Must have boon on working with precious metal clay. So well done. I keep referring to it as I explore this new medium for me. The content is well designed and I love the fact that she showcases works but apprentices as well as artists to better manage expectations. All the projects are clear and progressively help you master this new form. Highly recommend for any hobbyist or jewelry-maker exploring PMC.

This book really does take you through step by step process. Just reading it is an inspiration. Well written, detailed and easy to follow. Thank you for making sense of all this.

I'm just starting out and this book is such a precious resource for all the little details like shrinkage and minor details but takes you through to advanced techniques - it's made me more confident already 😊 definitely recommend getting this book if you're starting out
