Awesome bang for the buck....
Second "wellmaking" product i have gotten ! Have been impressed with the Bang for the Buck quality ! This snoot does everything as advertised... Weak points ? ... the little knob to adjust the focus tends to "wander" a bit when you adjust it... I put a small washer under it and that helped a lot.... I wish the Iris was "rounder" when closing it up... I get it... for the price/and the ammount of blades it has... im sure its an economic thing... but it doesnt make a perfect hard edge circle at different diameters... (unfocused who cares but for hard edge it is "so so"... Again for the price ? its a fair deal ! build quality is solid.. Would be nice if one day they could add an accessory or a DIY modification accessory to add the 4 way "flags/blades" somehow so you could adjust/flag/the shape of light totally custom anyway you want like some of the higher end units... ? perhaps mechinism that could slide into the gobo slot ? ... would be very useful... But again this thing for the money is awesome... nice job ! Recently purchased the 40w vid light and have been very pleased with that for the price as well ! 30 years shooting weddings, so far so good first time ever using this company's products !

Works okay! Non-common gobo disc size
It works okay! The gobo disc size is not a common size (58mm vs 66mm), so you have to buy their gobo discs for more variety. That's the one downside I see. It's not something I use all the time, but it works when I use it! I do not leave the model light on at full blast while shooting. I will position the light and then turn the model light off. I do this for all grids and gobos, since they can all get very hot

Does what you need it to do but...
Ordered this product and I gave it 3 stars for a reason (see update below). Build quality is not too bad. The one that I have a complaint about is the fresnel lens in the design. It seems the fresnel lens is made of some sort of plastic instead of glass. Unfortunately, I didn't find this out till later when I was putting the product away....that I noticed something not right about it. It had a refractive look and I also noticed that there was an opening to one side. It melted from the modeling lamp. I have a Bowens Prolite series which has a long 3" cylindrical modeling lamp which may have been too close to the fresnel lens inside the unit. I may have to replace it with a glass version of it if I can find one that is not thick unless Wellmaking can send me a replacement lens. Will keep you all posted. UPDATE: Wellmaking contacted me and asked me for photos which I sent and we found the problem. My Bowen’s light had a deep socket (marked in red with arrow) along with a very long modeling lamp which caused the melting for being too close to the lens. They sent me a replacement unit and a replacement lens if I wanted to tinker with it. So, I got great customer service for a flaw that was from my light not theirs. I modified the review to 5 stars. (No, they didn’t ask me to do this review. I am doing it on my own volition.)

A tricky modifier
The Wellmaking Flash snoot is a little tricky in some respect but you are able to get some good result with it. First of all, I must say that I removed one star immediately since it did not come with instructions. There is very little reason to ship such a device without instructions. The device is made of light weight metal which is a definite plus. As described it comes with several metal disk gobos as well as a few colored gels. It fits fairly easily onto a Bowens light source. Controls on the device allow you to adjust the aperture opening (a small spot or much larger), as well as a focusing knob to move the built in lens. A gobo holder fits about midway into the device and is held in place by two spring clips. I found it tricky to get the holder in place correctly and would suspect that the spring clips would break easily if one was too rough with the holder. This appears to be a weak point in the overall design. The photographer will definitely need to use the modeling light if mounted on a studio strobe on order to position the pattern where desired. Keeping the modeling light will of course make the device quite warm to the touch. Comparing this optical snoot to some of the more expensive models, some models allow for a interchangeable lens which this model does not. This may or may not be a benefit to some depending on how one plans to use the device. That said, the results from other models do not appear to be superior to what this model can achieve, so from that perspective value for the money may be a little more cost effective. Extra Gobo's are VERY expensive for this device as well as for other models. The good news it when paired with online photoshop gobo overlays, its value increases. Keep in mind that if using this device with a model, the pattern will shift as he/she moves so an assistant can be valuable in re-orienting the light.

Get creative
I love this snoot. It’s solid and is not built out of cheap materials. It allows you to add some creativity to your photoshoots/videos.

Nice snoot for very reasonable price
Great snoot and works as advertised. Can really add dimensions to your studio work. A must have. Only thing I noticed with this model that it’s not sharp edge to edge. It’s still sharp in the center. If you are looking for edge to edge sharpness I would recommend their other model-s200.
