Review: Very informative - Great book. Brought for our Grandson as he is obsessed with the Vulcan bomber, he loves reading it. Review: The Avro Vulcan A History - I would liked to have given this book a 5. However, although it is excellent and there is a good choice images they are spoilt in many cases by the poor resolution. This comment does not apply to the colour section which is very good. Nevertheless if the Vulcanis of interest it is worth buying if you can obtain under RRP.

Great story of a great plane
The Avro Vulcan story Having seen the Vulcan ( XH558 ) take to the skies again at Farnborough the other week I was interested to read about its history. It is also 60 years since the Vulcan first appeared at Farnborough. It must have seemed like something from science fiction when it first flew in the fifties. It is a great plane even today so what was it like then to see such a great sight. We had just come out of the era of Spitfires and Lancasters and a hugh delta winged aeroplane that was to be our front line defence for over thirty years arrived. This book is of necessity out of date as it does not cover the refurbishment and flight of the Vulcan since 2007. At least a new generation have the opportunity of seeing it again. It has also been thirty years since the Vulcans finest hour when it was used in the Falklands was to bomb the Argies. I had not realised there were so many raids but they were largely infective but it was the propaganda effect that at least let the Argies know we have the capability of bombing mainland Argentina which was more than they could do. It frightened them at least. I doubt we have the capability today. I remember seeing them lined up in the mid 1960s in Lincolnshire and them being able to scramble in four minutes. We have obviously declined as a world power but the Russians must have been impressed as they never attacked. How could we afford such an impressive deterrent after the war but not anymore ?

Buy It!! Buy It!! Buy It!!
The good old Vulcan lives again. This is more of a photographic book however it does contain some useful text. Anyone who ever had anything to do with V bombers will consider this a good, nice priced, edition. This included some colour. Lets hope we see her in the skies soon.
