Almost Perfect for a Beginner
We wanted a beginner book for an aspiring backyard astronomer - info on things you can see with your naked eye with no telescope needed. It's almost perfect. I'm focusing on the constellations in my review since that was my main interest, but it also has sections for the moon and planets. Pros: This book shows constellations, connects the dots so you can see what they represent, gives a short blurb about the history/mythology, and talks a bit about the stars that make up the constellation. It's a great balance between the science and the history and nice illustrations. Cons: The only con is that it can be difficult to find the constellations in the sky since this book doesn't give reference points on how to find them. I'm a complete novice so using this book alone can be kind of frustrating trying to locate the constellation I'm reading about. I'm using it in conjunction with Star Finder!: A Step-by-Step Guide to the Night Sky which is good at showing where constellations are in relation to each other (often using the big dipper as a reference point since it's so easy to find). That book is lacking in the history and illustrations that this one excels in, so together they're a good team.

The night sky seams so complex, but this book explains everything in simple terms - how to find the north star, how to recognise constellations and explains how the night sky changes depending on the time of year and where you are on the globe. I am really enjoying reading it.

Me gustó mucho el libro, pero le faltan los nombre de todas las estrellas en las constelaciones. Por ejemplo, en la de Orión falta Saiph.

Excellent quality graphics accompanied by good short descriptions. Only minor issue is that the cover has a matt finish which gives a sticky feel.
