I've had this in an Amazon list for many years and I finally decided to buy it after dealing with crooked goatees for way too long. When I first tried it, I ended up cutting my goatee incorrectly and had to shave it completely off. I was so upset and disappointed that I requested a return. Scott Bonge, the inventor, reached out to me personally. He refunded my purchase, but still coached me on how to use it properly. After my goatee had grown out again, I retried using it with Scott's excellent recommendations and it worked perfectly! Scott really knows facial hair lol! He didn't ask for it, but I went ahead a repaid him to thank him for all his time educating me and for inventing such an awesome product. Thank you, Scott!

In 2009, I purchased my first GoateeSaver and like many other people, I thought it looked `interesting' and wasn't sure if it would work or not. I was tired of going through the process of shaving my goatee off because I couldn't get it just right. When I came across the GoateeSaver, I took a chance and bought it. I had to get used to the template, but after I got the feel for the GoateeSaver, I was completely sold. Yes, it took a few times shaving to get used to it, but I can honestly say that I don't know how I ever keep my goatee looking presentable (maybe it wasn't) without it but it is really easy now. It is also precise and predictable. The part that I like the most is when I finish shaving with it, the sides of my goatee have a sharp edge that really does look incredible. This Amazon purchase is my 3rd GoateeSaver to buy because I wanted one for my overnight bag and am giving my brother one because he keeps asking about my goatee (yes, it is a little odd, but he also thinks it looks good) . I also want to say that the company did take care of me when my house was totally destroyed in the 2011 tornado in Springfield Massachusetts. I wrote the company expecting to get a form letter back, but I got a nice reply. I was able to explain the situation and they sent me a free GoateeSaver and even picked up the postage :) One last item is that I read some of the 1 star reviews about it not fitting a larger face and I recently lost 80 lbs. and can say that it fit the larger guy I was and now the smaller guy that was always trying to get out. I hate buying products that turn out to be junk, but this is not one of those products. I wanted to write this review because I do appreciate other consumers that have used the product and share their opinion with me. The GoateeSaver is a great buy. Thanks Daniel B.

This has been a great product. Before this, I had to guess how far to shave my goatee on all sides. The hardest part for me was always the bottom of my goatee and lately it was looking bad so I thought I would give this product a chance. I found out that I wasn't really doing a great job on my own! I had to grow a strip of hair on my right side because I had always shaved that too much. The bottom took awhile to grow back in evenly too. I like to comb my goatee down when I put this on and then shave any hairs that stick out. It really gives a straight edge. I don't have a very thick goatee, which I wish I could grow, but at least the shape of it is correct now. Cons: I have to make this as wide as it will go for the shape I want. Luckily it is wide enough for me. The problem is that the plastic screws hold ok, but since I have them so tight sometimes I will accidentally touch them and they will screw back in on me. If I wasn't paying attention I could mess up my goatee if this happened (shave too much). The wider you spread it, the bigger of a gap there is on the bottom. I thought maybe it would be ok and the first time I used it I carefully shaved the bottom of my goatee and tried to miss the gap. Well...when I was done I somehow had shaved that gap too! I had about a half inch spot missing in the bottom of my goatee. Luckily my hair was long enough to cover it while it grew back in. To solve this problem I put a band-aid across the bottom to fill in that gap. I wish they had built a plastic flap that could be used to cover that area if you wanted a wider goatee... I don't know if this is a con, but when I first started growing a goatee I was told and read that you normally have sharp edges to it. So it is like a box, straight down on the side and straight across. That is how I always did it. This will give you rounded edges. I don't really mind but thought I would mention it. Summary: I do like it. It has made my goatee look better and with a few adjustments and being cautious, it works well.

Pleasantly surprised! I wasn't sure what to expect, to be honest. I gave it a try and was surprised at how fast and easy it was to use. Great design and pretty nice job for the price! Saves me time!

I love the concept of this product and was really excited to try it out. I am super anal about getting my goatee even on both sides and usually end up making a mistake on it to the point where I shave it off and start over. So the idea of a template was very exciting. The issue I have with the Goatee saver is that it is very much a one size fits some and not all. The mouthpiece has three settings where you move it up or down to lengthen the goatee. It did not seem to matter what setting I put it on it never really seemed to make a difference. The bottom of the goatee was always just under my chin. I also disliked how it rounded the corners of the goatee off. I think part of the issue was I am a bit of a heavy set guy and the template was simply made for men with smaller features because it never seemed to fit my face correctly. Basically I did not think that there were enough adjustments that could be made to accommodate different face types and even different goatee types. If you are a skinny dude and liked the style of the goatee in the picture this product will probably work really well for you. If you are a bigger dude who likes a wider and longer goatee than this probably won't work for you. On the upside I did decide to keep it because for nothing else it was something that I could put over the top of my goatee to allow for a quick shaving of the rest of my beard. I could then remove it and do the close in shaving afterward. So while it did not work for me for defining my beard line it did help as an overall beard guard. I hope that in the future they come out with a template for bigger faces and different shapes/lengths.

I first became aware of your product when it was featured on a favorite program of mine ‘I Want That!’ on the popular Do It Yourself network. I have had always had facial hair ever since I was able to grow it. I tried once without any but I just looked plain WEIRD! So I never shaved it off completely again. But at the same time, it has always been a challenge for me until I found The Goatee Saver! What I like to do is this: I start by setting the right shape for my face and make it a smidge smaller than I want. Say 1/16 of an inch because I use an electric rotary style razor that has the cutting blade about 1/16 of an inch away from the plastic guard. I also have a form of Muscular Dystrophy know as Friedreich’s Ataxia. This is a muscle degenerative disease in which the affected person develops an unsteady gait. Balance and coordination are soon to follow. This seems to be where I fit in. To achieve the sharp, crisp edge wanted for my facial hair, I rely on a shaving aid or guide, if you will. While shaving this morning, I thought about how The Goatee Saver could be marketed and came up with something you might consider. Currently, there is more shaving aid or guide being offered to the handicap market. So maybe you should look into this market. We may be a small market but we still demand the best! This is such an amazing product and I wish I had known about it when I first decided to grow a goatee. Makes it so easy. I cannot speak for others, but this product is well built. And I believe as long as I take care of it and use it as directed, it will last a long time.

For a first time goatee guy, this device made it somewhat easier for me to shape my beard into an even goatee. After reading the variety of reviews that did everything from sing its praises and to making me feel ashamed to even consider the thing, I don't regret my purchase. As one of the other reviewer's wrote, I've too haveused it to update my goatee one additional time since it arrived. The rest of the time, it has been quite easy to maintain the shape of my new facial hair. It is adjustable from side to side, however, it is not adjustable from top to bottom. I have not measured exactly how wide it goes, but it goes much wider than I care to keep my goatee. On my first shave, I shaved into the groove at the bottom of the device and over cut the hair on my chin. This required just a little touch up that I have since allowed to grow back in. Cons: The price is a little on the high side given the limited number of times that I use it. However, I was not able to find anything to compare the price with because it appears to be a quite unique product. I also found the mouthpiece part to be a bit "gaggy" to my liking. It might be helpful to have and alternate piece that could be clamped with the front teeth instead of the molars to keep it out of the back of my mouth . For that, I deducted one star. All in all, for a newbie, it's not a bad product and it's not like you have to wear it out into public. In contrast, when you mess up your goatee, you do have to wear THAT into public. If you want to limit your risk and help your local economy, pay someone at a barbershop to carve your first goatee. But, if you're like me, and don't trust other people to you ever get it right the first time, this is a great product.
