Outstanding Portable Dehumidifier
I ordered the EdgeStar 70 Pint dehumidifier to replace my Soleusair SG-DEH-70-1 which was recently recalled. As was the case with the Soleusair model, the EdgeStar is being used in my basement. Even when set to the turbo fan speed, the EdgeStar is quieter than the Soleusair. It is currently filling (with automatic shut-off) every 5 hours, so it really is removing a lot of humidity in the air. The filter is very easy to clean and is removed from the top front of the unit (a filter light goes on when cleaning is recommended). This model is built very well and, so far, performs beautifully. I am very impressed by its ease of use and portability. Only time will tell how long the unit will soldier on.

Good product for my shop
So far, works well. It is keeping my 2400 sq ft shop in a tolerable range. Before I had the unit, when we had heavy rain here in Atlanta, my vehicles would literally sweat all over the floor, which is not good (rust), so I needed something to keep the humidity down. This has done a decent job improving the condition in my shop, but it doesn't keep it at the level that I would have expected (based on what it states that it does - 4,000 sq ft), but I'm in much better shape than I was. When cold outside, the unit actually gets ice build up on the filter, which is odd, and at times it makes some strange noises, so we'll see how well it holds up. It has been running pretty consistently since I purchased it about 6 weeks ago.

Keep shopping
I bought this dehumidifier in October of 2014 and it died in July of 2016. So I got a year and a half use out of it. It worked great while it worked but for a product I paid $200.00 for, I expect it to last for years. The one I replaced this one with (can't remember the brand) lasted 20 years. Like all the other people who gave it a one star review, I too get the EC code. I find it odd that theirs lasted about the same amount of time as mine did and we all get the identical error message. Seems like it's programed to fail within two years. Once burned, twice learned!

Ran well while it lasted 3.5 years
Worked well while it ran, but only lasted 3.5 years. It is junk now!

Puts out too much heat.
Too loud and puts out too much heat. I wanted this to bring down the humidity in my bedroom and it did BUT with the large amount of heat it put out it only made it uncomfortable again. Catch 22. It's loud for the size but it won't wake you up because it's a soothing sounds similar to a fan.

Just buy this one and forget it.
Thank goodness! We live in southeast Texas where the humidity is stupid. Our Kenmore 70 pint finally died after multiple summers of Hell. I'm so glad I looked for the most least expensive 70 pint to replace it. I typically don't order by price alone and this wasn't really done in this case as well...I did a modicum of research, but I was desperate for another one. Well, it's great. It's quieter than the last, and it looks better than the picture shows it to appear; not that it's different, but it's not as a stark and plain as in the picture?..lol Anyhow, it's a breeze to work. If you're on the fence about paying more because it's a 70 pint, just do it. If you need a dehumidifier, then get the biggest one...don't mess around. Your central ac unit will thank you.

Performs as advertised
This dehumidifier is performing as promised. I am using it in a 1300 sq ft apartment (all on one level), and leaving it in one location. The furnace/AC blower circulates the air throughout. The drying effect is detectable in all the rooms. I would give the unit five stars if it were somewhat quieter, but the noise level is tolerable. This is a large capacity unit. So it tends to short-cycle (turn on and off) a little more than I would like. But the controls are easy to manipulate, so you can quickly compensate if you want it to run longer or stay off. I am using settings of 45% and 50% RH successfully, in humid weather. This arrangement has stopped the doors from swelling and we are not getting mold growth. The dishes dry in the drainer, and a damp sponge will dry out on the counter in the kitchen and in the bathrooms. Removing the water tray is a little tricky, and so is reinserting the tray. Pouring out the water is awkward. These features are not hard to live with and they resemble what I have found in other units I have owned in the past.

This product is amazing! I have a 1500 sf house and the 70pt container is full in about 8 hours of operation. Shuts off when full and fires up when the reservoir is drained and replaced. I am testing the humidity with a meter other than the one in the machine and it is able to keep the house at around 46-50% no problem. In rainy and cold Oregon keeping the humidity lower inside really helps the house feel warmer. Windows are bone dry, the house smells good and doesn't have that clammy, damp feeling.I'm using the optional hose drain fitting to bypass the reservoir and drain into a bathtub so machine is able to run continuously.Great product, well worth the money!JWM
