Very nice steel trash can
This arrived better than expected. It’s the nicest standalone waste bin that I’ve ever used. The bags fit well and are easy to put in. The full bags come out easily. The foot pedal works nicely and the lid is very quiet and effective. It’s attractive as a steel can goes. It has a compartment to hold more bags but after we used the ones that came with it, we just use the standard kitchen size bags from the store. After moving from a home with a hidden can in the cabinet, hubby wasn’t too thrilled that we were going back to a stand-a-lone trash can again. It seems you never have room for them and it’s never in a convenient place when you find room. And they are usually pretty ugly. But we both really like this one.

Best Kitchen Trash Can Ever
This is my second time ordering this can. The older one is still in perfect condition - I needed an additional one for outside. It is nice and neat - very easy to switch bags. This comes with it's own special bags but you can use the regular 13 gallon bags from the store. There is no bulky inner bin to pull out and replace. It looks great and stays clean. It does not rust. It just makes my everyday life easier. I never thought I's rave about a trash can, but this is the best.

I love this trashcan, looks and functions well
I would never admit how much I spent on this trashcan but it was worth it. It looks clean, and actually elegant in my kitchen and the soft close feature is great. It says it has a smudge-free finish but my kids managed to put fingerprints all over but they wipe away easily - and now that you can't just lift the lid, you have to use the foot pedal, my kids don't touch it much. The first one I ordered did not have the soft close, it would fall fast and sometimes do a soft close at the bottom but not all the time. I normally don't like the hassle of returns, but I did return/request a new one and so glad I did. It's very roomy and keeps odors locked in. The Simple Human bags are awesome - big, thick and durable but also super expensive. After using a few I decided to put one of my store bought bags over the Simple Human bag just in case it tears to avoid leaks. So far so good. The store bought bags for 13 gallons fits this 14.5 trashcan, you just have to stretch it slightly at the top to fit over the rim and don't fill it to the max. I may buy a pack of the Simple Human bags eventually but honestly the others work just fine and you only notice when you're putting on and taking off. I feel like I'm saving money and that in itself will pay for the actual trash can. The one con would be that it does slide. The pressure of stepping on the foot pedal causes the trashcan to slide each time and depending on where it's located can be a nuisance. I have it against the side of my island and the counter-top sticks further out so if the trashcan is sitting against the island completely the lid will bang against the island counter top. I just have to pull it away every now and then - but not a huge inconvenience.

Probably the nicest looking garbage can on the market
It’s expensive, but it’s so worth it. I looked for a trash can for legit almost 4 months. There was only one trash can that came close to this, but the quality was much worse for the price. This trashcan was by far the nicest looking, and most well built one I’ve found. Simplehuman is expensive but they make really nice looking stuff. It comes with a warranty, and they also sell replacement parts. It’s very well built and great quality. Over a year now and through a move it looks new. I Ended up buying a second one for recycling too. Edit: About 2 years and the trash can still look and functions like new. I sometimes will force close it and I used to actually lug this up my stairs to throw cat litter in it from 3 boxes. Would have upto probably 10- 20 lbs cat litter in it, lugging down the stairs. I accidentally smacked it against my wood post. Use it as a main now and it looks and functions as brand new.

So worth it...Updated 3 years Later
We recently replaced one of the older SimpleHuman rectangular step cans. The lid finally broke after 10 years of constant use. I had a lot of trouble justifing the price of this trash can, it just seemed ridiculous but I thought about how much we use it and how much the other one annoyed me everyday and decided it was worth it. This trash can is wonderful. The biggest positive, it my mind, is the absense of nooks and crannies and places for debris to get stuck under the lid. The old trash can had so many places to keep clean, it was aggravating. Especially with small children who seem to scrape their plates anywhere but into the actually center of the can. This one has a surface under the lid that is very easy to quickly wipe clean. Inside the can is also very smooth and easy to clean. I don't usually like buying things that need special refills but so far the bags are really nice, they fit tightly and are a good thickness. The trash can does have a rim that drops over the edge of the can that holds the bag down so I don't think it would be a big deal to just use a regular bag but I haven't tried that yet. Fast forward Oct 2019 The slow close mechanism started failing after about 2 years. The garbage can has held up well, I think the metal on the top could have been stronger, has some dents in it. But what went bad the worst was the lid lift. After 2 and half years of very hard use it would only lift about two inches and then you have to lift by hand the rest of the way, which can be gross and annoying. Side note, some people complain about the can not being leak-proof. Maybe if you have a lot of really wet trash, which we don’t seem to, it might be a problem but we have never had a leak. We also always use the size Q liners. I recalled that simplehuman had a warranty so I contacted them about the lid problem. Sent them a picture and description of issue. Lo and behold without much trouble we received a brand new garbage can yesterday. So, all in all, definitely worth it. Would totally purchase again.

Best purchase made
The simplehuman Liner Rim Rectangular Step Trash Can is a great, functional trash can with a sleek profile and contemporary design. Not to mention its spacious interior. The innovative mechanism that helps silently and slowly close the trash lid with ease is what makes this trash can stand out from competitors. Even being placed straight against the wall, the top of the lid does not even touch the wall when you fully open the trash can. ---($129.99 for a 12 gal.) (note: I bought this model [12 gal.] for $103.99 on May 2016)--- The high price compared to other +10 gallon trash bins might draw you away from buying this model if you are on a budget, however you need to ask yourself two questions, "is it worth it and does it meet my needs and wants?". I would say its worth it if you have some extra cash laying around because this trash can is meant to last a while, I don't mean 5 years!! It comes with a 10 year warranty and just by the looks of the build of the trash bin, I potentially see more than 10 years of service life. Like a great investment. Well its hard to give a more detailed review since this trash can is simple, and writing even more will make you more indecisive. So I attached several images to help you decide. I recommend that you buy the white steel model if you want minimal visible scratch marks. Stainless steel looks great at first when its brand new, however as the trash can ages, you are going to see a whole lot of marks, including water marks and scratches from cleaning the trash can. Wish everyone the best and also, the best buying experience!

fantastic quality but works best with the brand name bags
This is a great trash can. It's well built, the bag loads easily, and the lid opens and closes quietly. I like how large the pedal is and that it won't pinch your toes between the step and the can like our oxo brand one does when I use it barefoot. I do wish the white sides of the lid were metal but the plastic they're made from is very sturdy. The whole thing wipes down easily and, while I was skeptical, the stainless lid really doesn't get noticeable fingerprints which are a constant struggle to keep on top of with our fridge and stove. My favorite thing about it is the lid. The part that opens is the center stainless steel area. The outer part of the lid lifts to hold the bag in place. The lid closes softly and is flush with the outer part making it difficult for little ones and pets to nudge open. I like everything about this trash can except for one thing - the pocket for bags. I appreciate the convenience aspect of it but with seven kids we generate 1-2 bags of trash per day so as much as I'd like to use the simplehuman bags they're just too expensive for our family to use on a daily basis. After the sample bags are used (they're fantastic quality) I'll be going back to the glad bags I get at the grocery store which fit almost as well. I'd just ignore the bag dispenser pocket but it's big. It sticks out far enough so the can has to be a couple extra inches away from the wall. When empty it leaves a gap inside the can where garbage can get snagged when pulling the bag out. My only other complaint is a superficial one. The company name/logo is emblazoned on the front of the lid. None of our other simplehuman products have such obvious branding. I'd much prefer the name be somewhere less noticeable. I like this trash can so much that I'm considering exchanging it for the 55L version. I feel I can justify the price of the liners if the can is bigger and holds more per bag. It really is a wonderfully well made trash can, I find myself wishing it came in a version without the bag holder. I feel silly raving about a trash can but this one is just that good. ------------------------------------------------------------------ I just wanted to update now that we've had this garbage can for awhile. We kept the smaller one and it's still working flawlessly. Every other week or so grab our roll of inexpensive garbage bags from the grocery store and spend a couple minutes pulling them off the roll and, one by one, folding the long folded bags in quarters. Then I stack them up and put them in the dispenser pocket. It's a bit of a hassle to set up but keeps our garbage bag costs low and our bag change time minimal. I've had to clean messes off the can several times and I'm impressed by how well it cleans up. The inside brim of the outer lid ring and the inside of the lid, which are both white plastic, can get stained but they clean up well with a magic eraser.

Love! Love! Love it! This is my second time buying this brand. A little pricey but solidly made. It’s the right size, lid closes quietly. Easy to wipe clean. It’s beautiful!
