I REALLY enjoy this when racking. Moving liquid from one carboy to another, this does it quickly - having had a smaller diameter on when I first started out, I really did not know any better. Comparatively, this moves faster! For bottling, unless using large vessels, I stick with the smaller size. Also, most of my equipment is scrounged and second-hand, so I discovered that some of my carboys have different size openings, and this larger tool did not fit inside. I've since marked my carboys so I can use this tool in the primary and secondary ferments, and transfer into the smaller sized carboy in the last step so I know to use the bottling cane and wands. I also make sure to run water through to flush it out after each use, then sterilizing solution (star-san) and air dry. I've found that only time (years) cracking occurs in the plastic, so there is a life-span to these items. (Unsure if it is the chlorine in the water from flushing things out, or the sterilizing solution, or again, second-hand and lived a hard life before me.) This is why I was in the market for purchasing one new, and found this item to give it a go. thus far, no cracking and performs well. I like that there is the hook so I can adjust where it sits when starting out to having the bumper on the bottom for keeping sediment out and sucking up crud from the bottom of the carboy. So much easier than using a piece of tubing, and by pumping, getting the siphon to start so it is a one person operation. I can keep from aerating the brews, which most get a little angry over. Tried bottling with it, and having had a bit of practice already, found I could manage just fine. Had a friend over to help who was new, and it was a bit overwhelming/fast for them. For precision, I slow down and use the smaller one I have, but if this were the only one I had, I'd be comfortable with it. I would upgrade to a spring loaded bottling cane however, as the top on this bottling cane is not spring loaded and is gravity/pressure based. Easier to keep clean in my opinion, but sometimes I've bumped things or jarred something and dribbled a little here and there. Hope this helps explain some things to those just starting out and ups the game on those who already been at it a while. Cheers!

Works well, almost too large for my application but makes it easy to rack wine

Works great but don't use for hot wort, it will warp and then not work in the future. Not sure if it will fit in a small-neck of a glass carboy, but should fit plastic carboys. UPDATE: Used it on my glass carboy, it just barely fit (1 3/16" opening). Very easy to start and control to avoid sucking up sediment.

Works as it should. Outside of siphon has a large crack in the tube. Still works fine. Would be 5 star but the package wasn't damaged so it was shipped like this.
