Flash Gordon (40th Anniversary Edition)

Fun film and in 4k very good to look at and good sound as well through my sound system !

4 k transfers can be hit or miss when buying old movies that have been released on physical media. I'm happy to report that the 1980 release of Flash Gordon fits into the latter. The visuals are stunning with vibrant colors popping off the screen and the audio track is nice and clear. Though the movie was a box office bomb when it was first release, time has been kind to Flash Gordon and turned it into a cult classic. The effects are a bit hokey by today's standards, it still an enjoyable movie. A must own on 4k blu ray if you love the movie

Version: 4K 40th Anniversary 2020 Edition I won’t bother to review the film itself as the blurb on the box pretty much sums it up: “A perfect piece of interstellar campery!”! Truer words were never spoken. Instead this review focuses on the wealth of new extras included with this set. At first glance Studio Canal certainly seems to have spared no effort in compiling the surfeit of elements that comprise this glorious 40th Anniversary release. Easily surpassing its Blu Ray predecessor, this new edition of the cult 1980 film boasts hours of goodies to surely justify its’ fairly steep price tag. Upon closer inspection though much of these extras feel less than definitive... Case in point being the deleted scenes featurette with Bob Lindenmayer, some fan/prop dealer. Bob proceeds to vaguely describe one well documented sequence excised from the final print before quickly exceeding the remit of the feature to speculate on what might’ve appeared in the proposed sequel instead! Yet multiple stills from Flash’ exist showing various deleted scenes of which Bob completely neglects to mention for some reason. Then there’s an episode from the 1970’s-80’s Filmation cartoon ‘The New Adventures of Flash Gordon’. Logically one would expect the first episode of the first series (itself a spin off of a feature length, far superior Flash’ cartoon by the same company) to be included here. Instead though they’ve opted for some random, meaningless episode from the far inferior second series! As with the deleted scenes feature it feels lazy and random. To compound matters the set’s stills gallery is far from expansive either, comprising barely a dozen photographs. This is maddening because the film obviously boasts a vast panoply of stills of the cast, sets et al...so why weren’t they included?! Again, lazy. There are other arguable shortcomings but above is what mildly disappointed this fan... ————— Overall then an excellent release mired by some extras that feel slapped together without much care or forethought. Still highly recommended despite these gripes though. P.S. Oh and just in case anyone was wondering, this release IS Dolby Vision compatible! I only mention it because this obvious selling point appears omitted from the back of the box for some reason - how ironically befitting given the issues I’ve highlighted above...

A classic. Operatic over acting at its best. Picture quality of the Blu-ray is superb. The only way to experience this folm

If you haven't seen this then you are missing out, it's just the best, it's an absolute classic, it's cheesy, it's camp and it has one of the best sound tracks out there

Excellent trip to my childhood times 💪

Great in 4k format

There are only congratulations to the team responsible to make this edition a reality. Perfect as perfect may be.

Film anni 80 che all'epoca vidi al Cinema (avevo 7/8 anni) e che mi è rimasto nel cuore. Bellissime le musiche dei Queen che fanno da colonna sonora. Cast eccezionale con le nostre Ornella Muti e Mariangela Melato ma anche con attori del calibro di Max von Sidow e Timothy Dalton . Questa edizione non contiene audio italiano ma a livello audio/video siamo su livelli eccezionali e non poteva mancare nella mia collezione. Sicuramente gli effetti visivi sono datati ma il film per me è una pietra miliare del genere supereroi / fantascienza. Da avere !

Zum Film selbst man liebt Ihn oder Hasst Ihn. Ich liebe Ihn und Er weckt Erinnerungen an meine Kindheit. An alle die Sich die gleich Frage gestellt haben ob die UK 4K Amaray für "NUR 19,02 Euro", das deutsche Steelbook kosstet fast 30 Euro, Deutschen Ton, ein ganz klares JA! Bei allen Drei Discs aus diesem Set wird man sofort nach dem Einlegen in den Player (bei mir xbox one x) gefragt auf welcher Sprache mann den Film oder die Specials sehen möchte. Wie gesagt diese Abfrage kommt bei der 4k Disc, der Blu-ray und der Blu-ray mit den Specials und diese Abfrage kommt automatisch von der jeweiligen Disc selbst. Weiter ist die Amaray noch in einem Pappschuber. Nicht irritieren lassen auf dem Schuber und der Amaray steht nur Englischer Ton. Aber ist auch auf Deutsch. Weiter lief die 4K Version fehlerfrei auf meiner xbox one x. Also Probleme mit der 4K Version wie in den Englischen Bewertungen zu lesen ist, kann ich absolut nicht bestätigen. Alle Drei Discs laufen Einwandfrei. Die 4K Version ist Atemberaubend, dieser Film zeigt wie gut und sauber alte Filme aufbereitet werden können. Super Arbeit Studiocanal. Wer die 4K Version zum günstigen Preis sucht und nicht unbedingt das Steelbook haben möchte und die Englischen Altersfreigaben auf Schuber und Amaray nicht stören sollte hier unbedingt zuschlagen. Die UK Version hat keine Wendecover. Ich Hoffe ich konnte einigen Fans des Films Helfen, die sich noch unschlüssig sind mit der UK Version.
