Mg astray red frame kai is one of the best kits around
Mg astray red frame kai is one of the best kits around. There is a lot of plastic in the box (25+ runners) and it sells for less than comparable models like mg 00 raiser or rezel type c, for example. The build is great with abundant detail throughout and refreshing if you haven't assembled a master grade astray before. The model has excellent range of motion in all joints, although the shoulder to chest connection isn't the best. There are also a lot of nubs to clean up, the most I've encountered in the 10+ master grades assembled. This can be easily overlooked because the finished result is great in every respect. The colours and their separation create a unique and organic feel. The decals and their placement also sort of give it a cyberpunk look, which adds to the visual appeal. The astray red frame's weapons and accessories are amazing. It has 2 chrome coated samurai swords, individually named with their own detailed scabbard. These look great in any pose and are very well done. It also has a massive, cloud strife-style red sword that transforms into multiple modes that are interesting options. It can become an oversized bow with a yellow effect part at the tip, a strange delta form (shown on the box art), a flight mode, backpack v-form and the giant sword. It contains unused parts from the astray blue frame kit so that you can transform the sword into the gattling gun form as well. You also get the astray blue frame's sword handle and its 2 black side-daggers, including their sheaths. Finally, you can recreate the blue frame's blade arms, just without the pink effect parts. The kit even has an adjustable red stand to accommodate the tactical arms sword in all its forms, so posing options are almost limitless. In general, for what you get in relation to what you pay, the astray red frame kai is pretty much unbeatable.

REALLY good build
REALLY fun build, tight spaces for the dry rub decals, so make sure you have tape on hand. As with most MG, be careful with the fingers. Was really excited about the cockpit being accessible after the full build. Super tall in comparison to SD and HG (fourth picture, SD on the left, HG on the right, person from MG kit for scale)

This gundam is very cool, unique, and will sit well atop your shelf
This Gundam can be completed within the day with a friend :p or alone with the right dexterity and coordination lol comes with tiny mini fig of the main character. Had no problems with the upper torso aside from the v crest sitting on red astray's forehead. For me, one of the legs manage to latch onto one of the other pieces in the knee area, effectively cracking a tiny plastic piece. Did not ruin the model for me whatsoever, seeing as I purchase numerous figures from different genres that feature main characters with swords. (with a few exceptions)This model fit in perfectly with my mini hall of heroes lol The swords have the Japanese writing for their names. The giant accessory is like a model in and of itself, although was quite beautiful when put together. Also came with a stand, which is a good thing for if you want to pose the model with it's giant buster sword/blade-bow and arrow/shield. Astray simply cannot hold the giant accessory alone without some help and thankfully Bandai included the stand. :) Product also came with numerous knicks and knacks such as spare gun pieces, knives, and probably actual gundam parts (which i assume might build your own custom gundam if you buy enough of the models lol. All-in-all, I am very happy with the red Astray Model-kit, very cool that it's got dual blades and a giant claymore!

Great MG model
The most important things about the MG Astray Red Frame is that it has amazing detail and mobility. I'm focus on the gripes I have with the model, which should lead you away from MG Astray RF if these are your personal pet peeves. First off, the Gundam isn't particularly good at holding things. It's easy for things to fall out of his hands. There are many models, HG, RG, or MG, which are better at holding things. This is partially due to the fact that the weapons that this model has are very unique, but it is also due to the design of the hands. Second, I the model isn't very good at being moved around. Things fall off very easily. This isn't to say that there are loose pieces per se - nothing falls off if you don't touch it in a modeled stance - but it's still frustrating to attempt to pose him. Many other models do not have this problem; they stay together very well, as you move the model from stance to stance. This is not the case with Astray. Finally, you cannot open the cockpit without removing several pieces. I don't know what the purpose of a functional cockpit is if you cannot access it without taking the model apart...it's great that I as the modeler know that the pilot is in the chest of the Gundam, but it's really not helpful if I cannot easily access the cockpit. To open the cockpit, you basically need to separate the chest from the waist portion, remove a white block in the way, then flip open the cockpit. This isn't 'too' difficult, but many other models have easily accessible cockpits.

The MG Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai is a fan-favorite Master Grade kit released by Bandai, based on the "Gundam SEED Astray" side stories. 🔧 Build Quality & Engineering This Master Grade kit lives up to the MG standard with a fully articulated inner frame and sharp part separation, allowing most builders to enjoy a clean, color-accurate model straight out of the box—no painting required. The snap-fit construction is solid, with tight tolerances that hold up well during posing and display. The build process is engaging, with a few challenging areas that make it more rewarding than a High Grade without being overwhelmingly complex. The instruction manual is clear and well-illustrated, guiding you through each section—from torso and limbs to the iconic Tactical Arms II-L backpack. Chromed katana blades and intricate mechanical detailing elevate the overall presentation and make this a memorable build. Most parts fit together smoothly, although a few sections—particularly around the head and backpack—may require careful handling or minor sanding to improve fit. 🤖 Articulation & Posability The Red Frame Kai offers impressive articulation thanks to its well-engineered joints and lightweight frame. The arms and legs feature wide ranges of motion, allowing for deep lunges, sword-drawing poses, and balanced stances. The shoulders are flexible enough to mimic the dual-wielding action seen in media, and the legs are strong and stable even under the weight of its large accessories. That said, the Tactical Arms II-L is massive and may throw off balance when attached in certain configurations. Fortunately, Bandai includes an Action Base 2 in the box, which helps support mid-air poses or stabilize the model in more dynamic stances. The only recurring issue mentioned by many builders is the V-fin, which tends to fall off or feel fragile—gluing it down lightly is a popular solution without compromising the model's look. ⚔️ Weapons & Accessories The Red Frame Kai comes impressively armed. It includes: * Two chromed katana blades (Gerbera Straight and Tiger Pierce) with sheaths that attach securely to the side skirt armor. * The Tactical Arms II-L: a transforming mega-weapon that serves multiple roles—as a giant sword, flight unit, and support stabilizer. * An Action Base 2, which is a fantastic inclusion for the price, allowing for complex aerial displays and preventing toppling due to the backpack’s weight. The transformation of the Tactical Arms is clever and satisfying but may require extra attention during posing to keep it balanced. Some parts may feel a bit loose after repeated movement, so builders often tighten joints or use posing putty for long-term display. 🎨 Aesthetics & Visual Appeal Visually, the Red Frame Kai is stunning. The vivid red and white color scheme, paired with mechanical gray and splashes of gold on the hilts, gives it a unique, almost ceremonial warrior vibe. The samurai aesthetic is further emphasized by the katana storage and overall silhouette. Once completed, the model looks dynamic and elegant from every angle. The chrome-finished blades reflect light beautifully and add a premium touch rarely found in kits at this price point. Details such as dry-rub decals and mechanical panel lines enhance the model's realism. Builders who enjoy customization will find ample opportunities for weathering, panel lining, and even LED mods in the backpack or chest. 🧩 Difficulty & Recommendations This kit is best suited for intermediate to advanced builders. Beginners can certainly tackle it with patience, but the complexity of the Tactical Arms and dry-rub decals may present a challenge. It’s a fantastic step up from High Grade kits and a good introduction to more complex builds without jumping into Ver. Ka or Real Grade territory. Some recommended tools and tips: * Use tweezers and a soft cloth for dry-rub decals to prevent smudging. * Consider a plastic cement or model glue for the V-fin if you plan to handle the head frequently. * A fine-point panel liner pen helps bring out mechanical details and sharpens the overall appearance.
