Quality Product at Half the Cost
On my 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD, I have the common problem of knocking coming from the steering column. I first replaced the "intermediate steering shaft" and the knocking was reduced. I then replaced the "steering shaft bushing" and the knocking was further reduced. I was still able to get movement on the steering shaft and realized that the lower shaft (this item under review) was also bad. Amazon had the exact part that I needed at half the cost of the auto parts stores and ridiculously lower than the dealerships. This Dorman shaft is a quality product and is equal to or greater than the OEM part. Once installed, there are no more annoying sounds coming from the steering column. You can't go wrong with this Dorman part.

Helped fix my loose searing. Another great Dorman product.
03 2500hd. Had loose steering. Tightened up steering box, still had issues. Replaced steering box, better but still had issues. Replaced both steering shafts, perfect. If you buy this item, buy the other shaft as well. You will already be working with it and they wear at the same time.

Will Work on 08 Silverado 3500HD if you Beat it On
I installed this on my 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD (duramax dually). In order to get it to fit onto the steering box, I had to hammer a small chisel into the spreader, and then once it was started, I beat it down the rest of the way with a larger punch. It was a good bit of work to get it on, but it looks like it will work fine. So, if you have the same truck as me, just know it will fit but you will need to put in a good bit of work to get it on. Amazon says it doesn't work on the vehicle, but in the product description it says it will. However, on Dorman's website it only lists models through 2007. It is likely another product would have a larger diameter and fit better with an easier installation.
