A Perfect Budget Flash For Macro Photography
Well I absolutely love this unit for macro photography. The flash can go from nuclear if you're using extension tubes or stacking lenses and loosing a lot of light, to subtle for when you're just shooting with your camera and lens. The build quality is tough, definitely doesn't feel cheap. I really love the lamp feature for when I have to be right on top of the subject and have no light to get a sense of focus, I just wish there was a way for it to permanently stay on instead of turning off every shot, I almost feel like I need a assistant just to press that button. As others mentioned the manual is rather vague, however the interface is rather straight forward and not hard to figure out by just toying with it for a bit. I'd definitely buy this product again if lost or I needed a second.

Very good light.
Great macro light. I chose this one 3 times. Destroyed my first with leaky batteries, lost my second in a move. Just keep coming back to this one every time. This thing has won me international awards.

Great inexpensive ring light, lens mount could be better
I just finished my first session with the MEKE-MK-14EXT-N I-TTL Macro Ring Flash for Nikon. I read that it is best to buy the version made for your camera, and the flash seems to communicate just fine with the lens. I see an indicator in my viewfinder showing that a Flash is detected. By the way, I'm using a Nikon D850 with a Tamron 180mm Macro lens. The first thing I shot was tropical fish, through glass with a bit of algae on the inside. When the fish were close to the glass, you could obviously see the dirty glass in the photos, however, when they were further back from the glass, the camera seemed to auto focus fine, and the flash was automatically adjusted for a proper exposure, using automatic settings on both the camera and the flash. Next I went outside to shoot some tiny flowers. Again, the flash did what it was supposed to do, evenly light the subject with a white light (not blue, not yellow). The menu and controls are easy to use, without looking at the manual. The left/right adjustment is cool. You can set more flash on one side or the other. And the lamp setting turns on two spot LEDs to assist with focusing in low light shooting. The down side, is that the rings that connect the flash to the lens are fairly soft plastic, and probably not molded perfectly, so the 72mm ring I used was very hard to get the threads to line up. Be patient and don't force it. There are rings for several sizes of lens filters, from small (maybe 52mm, to a large 77mm), however, and flash itself is just a little larger than 72mm, so on my 77mm (24-120mm lens with a 77mm filter ring size), the flash caused black rings to be visible at the corners (looks like vinieting) for all focal lens less than about 100-120mm. (I just checked again, I see rings starting at about 90mm focal length at F22). My 180mm lens with a 72mm filter thread worked perfectly. The other down side, is that the flash's clip, that connects to the threaded ring, is not very tight. If you want to have your flash stay at a certain orientation, you will fight the springiness of the spiral cord between the flash and the control unit which sits on the hot shoe. Once that loosens up, it should be OK, but I'd like it to fasten more tightly.

Just get it.
I wanted to purchase a macro flash without spending a lot of money for one made by Nikon, as for the majority of my shots I’m using super telephotos for wildlife or wide angle for landscape. To be honest I was expecting less quality or features. I have found that not only does it work wonderfully for macro shots, but also for portraits it does a better job of diffusing light vs a standard hot shoe mounted flash. It’s an unfair comparison, but I have used it in some tests and I like the results. I am extremely happy with the flash. I think for the money you cannot go wrong with this one. If I absolutely had to pick something I don’t like, I honestly would not know what to say. If something does go wrong with time, I will post it on this review as a long term update.

black spot
I just got the flash. It's been a day since I used it for the first time and everything great, when I turn it on for the second time I notice that it has a black spot on the ring. The problem is that it has never been dropped and was used in the right way. So I'm not very happy about it, I just hope that the black spot doesn't get bigger.
