I PURCHASED 5 BOSS AUDIO ITEMS
This review includes the BOSS Audio - BRS 6x9 speakers, BOSS AVA6200 speakers, and the BOSS Audio 616UAB multimedia player. I have purchased other very elaborate, and expensive car audio systems, and either they did not last long, or I was disappointed in some other way. But the multimedia player I mentioned made me BOSS Audio fan. It is very reliable, tough, long lasting, and has excellent sound quality. I built, and completely modified a 2015 Toyota Tacoma inside out, and from the ground up. The same above mentioned BOSS Audio speakers, and media player is what is in my build. The sound is very strong, clear, and excellent. I do not play my music to deafening level, but at a moderate volume. I am very picky to sound, and simplicity. I do not get involved with subwoofer competitions, while sagging my pants, and picking my nose. I just wanted excellent sound.

Of all the speakers out there, these are some of them.
They sure do speak, I tell you what. These won't blow you away. I needed some cheap speakers to just have a functioning audio system in my 90s Honda. It'll sound like an OEM system from the late 90s, and you'll be totally okay with that. And while you're not blowing out windows 3 blocks down, they do a decent job of producing decent sound for a pretty decent price. They fit right in, look like OEM speakers, and there are lots of screw holes for whatever zany setup the manufacturer of your car had going on.

Great for Arduino-based *loud* custom siren sound! (UPDATE: this is a 15W~20W speaker, not 60W or 120W!)
UPDATE, 2 OCT 2017: These speakers are only capable of 15~20 Watts of continuous power draw, *not* 60W. I put a power meter on them and drove them with a square wave variable-frequency siren sound centered at 635 Hz and measured the power draw when driving *2* speakers (with a ~12V 3S LiPo battery) in single-drive mode to be 18W (9W/speaker). When I doubled the driving voltage (actually by dual-driving the coil with the same voltage), they started smelling like the clear-coating on the magnet wire around the coil was burning off--you know, a chemically melted-plastic-like smell after about 30 sec at full power. I measured the power draw this time to be 55W when driving *2* speakers (27.5W/speaker). Anyway, I think they'll do 50W/speaker but I wouldn't hold it there for longer than a couple seconds, and even 27.5W continuous power draw per speaker will fry it it seems, based on the smell, in just a couple minutes. I'd keep continuous average power draw to around 15W~20W or less per speaker. ORIGINAL REVIEW FROM 2 MAR 2016: Great for Arduino! I used it to make a custom siren sound and it works awesome! I'm dual driving it with an Arduino Nano, via the toneAC library and a custom home-built 15~20A H-bridge. To prevent DC bias in the speaker I have a 4700uF 25V bipolar AC coupling capacitor between one of the H-bridge outputs and one of the speaker wires. I made this 4700uF 25V *bipolar* capacitor from 6 parts: namely, 2 parallel sets of back-to-back (neg to neg) 4700uF 25V polarized aluminum electrolytic caps in series. I then placed 1A Schottky diodes from the negative capacitor leads to the left and right outer (+) capacitor leads. In this way I made my own 4700uF 25V bipolar (non-polarized) cap from 4 4700uF 25V polarized caps and 2 Schottky diodes. To see the speaker playing the custom siren sound see my website article (at ElectricRCAircraftGuy) by googling the phrase "One of my current projects: Arduino police siren w/simple, custom transistor amplifier/speaker driver circuit". ~Gabriel ElectricRCAircraftGuy com

Worth every penny
Feb 12.2023 edit- still no problems and sounds like it did the day of install. For the price point this speaker really can’t be beat. For a mid speaker this one is top notch at the price point. It’s rare to find single speakers so when I saw this I figured “why not?” I wasn’t in the market for anything top tier after market for a replacement after the factory speaker blew. The sound quality is miles above the factory speaker that came in our 2010 Nissan Rogue. The holes don’t match up and I had to cut the stock wire harness off and re-wire myself. But, not a problem. A few washers and some basic wiring knowledge is all you need to get the job done! After installing countless aftermarket speakers/amps/subs/tweeters in my personal vehicles over the years this one was a breeze! Say goodbye to distortion and that annoying crackle that comes with a dry rotted stock paper speaker! I’ve only had it in one day but if any issues arise I will update my review. 10/10 would recommend at this point in time though!

Works as Replacement for Job Rocker Max
I used this 6.5” speaker as a replacement for the speaker from my Job Rocker Max with a minor modification. This speaker is about an inch less in diameter (I forget exactly). It still will seat in the cabinet, but the outer frame cannot reach to the screw holes to mount the speaker. I used those plastic mirror holder clips (normally used to mount a full length mirror to a door). Then I went to Home Depot to get longer screws (1”) to be able to reach through the plastic clip. I think I used six, but four would probably work. So $13 for the speaker and another $5 for mirror clips and screws and the unit is back in business. This assumes you already have a soldering gun to disconnect and reconnect the new speaker. The performance is similar to the old speaker. It seems to have a little less bass response, perhaps owing to the smaller size. The units are not about high fidelity, but rather portable music or amplification. I was glad I was able to save the unit for under $20. It probably took me more than an hour taking it apart and going for parts, etc., but I would have hated to just throw it away when I know it could be fixed. I looked at ION’s website for replacement parts. I could not find it. There was a phone number, but my guess was that this would be a hassle and more expensive. Maybe I was wrong, but how hard is it to list the speaker for order. I don’t know if my rating is fair. The speaker sounds like the cheap speaker it replaced. But that is a great value for $13. If you are going to be real picky about the sound, you shouldn’t be buying $13 speakers.
