Delicious!
I confess I've never had a real, fresh, honest to goodness black truffle before. But I have bought truffle oil many times. I actually did buy something that claimed to be a real truffle some years back - it looked like a truffle, sat in its own tiny little jar and cost me over $25, but it was virtually flavorless. So most of my experience has been with truffle oil. From that perspective, I can tell you that this product is far superior to truffle oil. The aroma and flavor are simply stronger. Yes, it's expensive, but a jar goes a pretty long way. It is absolutely fabulous with anything involving steak, eggs, or potatoes. Sure, truffles can flavor a wide variety of dishes, but to my tastebuds, steak, eggs, and potatoes are the perfect compliment. If you don't believe me, try this for the most unbelievable steak you've ever had: Melt a stick of salted butter in the microwave. Add roughly the same amount of plain goat cheese and whisk to uniform consistency. Add about 1/2 tsp of minced black truffle and some freshly ground pepper and whisk again. Refrigerate until cool and solid. Cook steak according to your favorite method and then slather liberally with this goat cheese truffle butter. You're welcome!

Delicious goodness
I like the flavor of truffles. I wanted to be able to add this wonderful flavor in my cooking. The problem is fresh truffles are expensive and there's no way I will use the whole truffle, not right away. I needed something I could use little by little over a period of time. Most recipes simply call for truffle oil. But I could not bring myself to use truffle oil. Maybe I watched too much of Anthony Bourdain... Each time I would look at the ingredients there would be some mystery "natural flavor". I did some research and found some disturbing information about what that natural truffle flavor really is... (spoiler alert!) - it is not truffles! So while scouring amazon for a solution I came across this minced black truffle in a jar. Am I happy this is available! Such a great option. It is very affordable and allows one an option of using this delicious flavorful ingredient in small amounts over an extended period of time. I also read the reviews previous customers posted and one suggested adding olive oil to the jar as the minced mass gets used. What a wonderful idea! I have been doing that every time I take out a little and I end up with real truffle flavored oil which can also be used in cooking. (skim off that flavored oil and add it into ketchup and you end up with the best ketchup ever tasted!) To sum up my ramblings, this is a superior product. Thank you, TruffleHunter!

Bottles and jars need an upgrade in quality to match the excellent products inside of them.
It was incredible. However, the seal is not good on any of their products and unfortunately it lead to this one getting moldy within two days. If they changed/used better quality screw tops on all their products I would give this a 69 star review. They make an excellent product. The packaging just doesn't match the quality of what is inside of it.

Next best thing to fresh
I think that black truffles are one of the most sublime ingredients. They add depth of flavour to a creamy pasta sauce, elevate humbled scrambled eggs to something heavenly, and enhance even the most delightful risotto. In my opinion, you can’t get better quality black truffles than these unless you’re prepared to go into the woods accompanied by a dog or pig. Wholeheartedly recommended!

Pretty good substitute for the infamous "truffle shavings"
To be perfectly honest, it's not clear how much actual truffle is in this. That said if you have occasion to make old-time French or Italian recipes, this is a fairly inexpensive substitute for "truffle shavings" or "truffle with its juice". We've used it in both chicken and seafood mousse - the flavor is not overwhelming and the aroma is nice. Note that it does "settle" in the jar so the top bits tend to rise out of the olive oil base. Just set the jar upside down the day before you use it all will be well.

A healthy addiction
When I bought this the first time I was expecting a one time buy for overtly expensive mushrooms.... I'm on my 3rd purchase.... This stuff is addicting and goes on practically anything. The best way to experience this is to take about a dollop, mix it with ground beef, and you'll have the most addicting tacos/burgers ever. -Flavor tastes like a heavy garlicy umami extract, but with a unique indescribable aftertaste. Smell is heavily reminiscent of aged garlic. -Presentation is sweet and simple, a petite glass jar with a simple black and gold lid. -Value is pretty solid, for roughly 30 bucks, you cant get better with genuine black truffles. The mixture is 20% EVOO/80% truffles, so actual truffle amount is 2.256 ounces. You're still getting a lot of truffles for next to nothing on price. Overall, amazing. Will buy again, and again, and again...….. yea the addiction is that bad.

not bad, but also quite different from a fresh truffle
I tried this product for the first time, tossing a teaspoon of the minced truffles (and some of the olive oil it sits in) into a serving of buttered homemade pasta. The 2.8 oz jar is still fairly small, so I didn't want to be too indulgent and use too much of the contents for just one serving. Yes, there was a hint of the earthy flavor of truffles, but it wasn't as strong, nor did it have quite the fragrance that I expected. The best analogy I can give is to orange juice. Store-bought pasteurized orange juice is certainly enjoyable, but for anyone who's ever had fresh squeezed orange juice, the store-bought product just isn't quite the same. That was my experience with this. It's definitely not bad, but the question I'm asking myself, is it $30 good? I've occasionally bought fresh truffles (usually mail order... I no longer live in a city where you can buy them locally), and when you get lucky and get a really fragrant one, the aroma is indescribably wonderful. Unfortunately, that special something was missing here. Now, to be fair, the cost of a fresh black truffle (plus the cost of overnight shipping it if you can't buy it locally) could easily top 4X the cost of this jarred version. And it's recommended to use up a fresh truffle in just a few days, whereas this product will last a month in the refrigerator and even presumably longer if frozen (although, while not recommended, I have also frozen fresh truffles and still been quite happy with the results of micro-planing bits of the still frozen truffle onto buttered pasta, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes and even grits!) In any case, this product is currently one of my "subscribe and save" items (every 3 months), and so I'm getting a bit of a discount on it. Nonetheless, I haven't decided yet if I will keep this as a "subscribe and save" item, or whether it might not just be better idea to simply splurge the $100 on a genuine fresh truffle once or twice a year instead?
