Seems to filter the water. I have been using this refill for a couple years now. Initially I had difficulty replacing it into the fridge, but after doing it several times it is easy.

I like the savings that can be found in a knockoff filter that does the same job as the "genuine replacement" brand, but the refrigerator is new, I've had a couple of issues in the past with the cheapies, and I thought I'd better spring for the real thing. My wallet wept, but the new filter slid right into place, doesn't leak, and the water tastes fine. One word of warning: My filter came without instructions. Since I hadn't replaced one on this refrigerator before, I went to YouTube and watched a one minute short on how to do the swap. It's easy as can be.
