The Paperback Fanatic issue 44

Virtually every issue of Justin Marriott’s long-running fanzine THE PAPERBACK FANATIC is worthy of a 5-star rating. Issue #44 is as well, and although TPF is about vintage paperbacks, several chapters in this one focus on those involving subjects that especially fit the year 2020. One is an overview of vintage paperbacks about viruses and plagues. Another looks at disaster-related paperbacks. A third, “Authors in Lockdown” focuses on novels written by authors while they were in lockdown, serving time in prison. Other chapters feature Gil Cohen’s classic, fan-favorite cover art for Don Pendleton’s Mack Bolan/EXECUTIONER novels and reviews of various interesting vintage paperbacks. And, every chapter is lushly illustrated with full-color cover scans. It’s another beautifully produced, fascinating, must-have fanzine from Marriott. No wonder this issue immediately became Amazon’s “#1 New Release in the Bibliography & Index Reference” category.

Justin Marriott legt mit "The Paperback Fanatic 44" eine höchst lesenswerte Sammlung von Essays und Rezensionen zum Thema Lockdown und Katastrophen in anglo-amerikanischen Paperbacks vor. Ich habe viel Neues erfahren und möchte besonders die durchgehend farbigen Illustrationen hervorheben, erst durch sie wird im Zusammenspiel mit den kompetent verfaßten Texte aus der Veröffentlichung eine richtig runde Sache. Wie - auch andere Veröffentlichungen von Justin Marriott - jedem wärmstens zu empfehlen, der an populären Medien interessiert ist.
