Dogs do need grains in their diets to prevent heart problems per the FDA. My Vet followed up with me to make sure I was including grains in my dogs diet. I told him about using this product and he gave it two thumbs up👍🏼👍🏼! Also, it does not contain any chicken, chicken meal, or chicken by products. My dog is allergic to chicken and as long as Amazon continues to carry this product I will continue to buy it from them. Merrick is a great quality dog food. Updated Review 10/6/2021: This dog food recipe has changed!!! No longer poultry free & has additional proteins too!! Added Chicken Fat & Salmon Meal!! I am furious it is not single protein from Lamb any longer! 🤬 Had been wondering why my dog was having diarrhea again! Merrick sold out to Purina, they have ruined this Brand. 🤬 should have left well enough alone, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!! 🤬

Switched to Merrick after it was found out that blue buffalo was putting "bad" ingredients in their food. I honestly have never looked back. This food makes my dogs coat so soft and shiny. She has plenty of energy. Added bonus is that all the dog kibbles are the same shape and size, so my dog doesn't pick out some of the pieces while leaving the rest like she did with Blue Buffalo. Though we use an airtight container for her food, since we live in humid south Florida, it is a nice touch that the bag is resealable, unlike so many others.

We used to buy this locally and then during the pandemic switched to buying it here on Amazon. We like the larger bag for the value, but wish it too included the Velcro to seal it better. We saved one of the older bags and when we get another bag with Velcro will switch back to the larger bag to save value and transfer the contents to the two Velcro bags. We nuke a tablespoon of the same brand wet dog food in the microwave for 15 seconds and add it to the 2 scoops of this dry dog food and then mix it all together. The dog finished in no time and we know she's getting a healthy meal. Again, wish the larger bag had Velcro but that's a minor nit.

Everything now is grain free and this is one of the few brands it has ancient grains. After reading, many articles, and talking to my vet, I’m not going to go grain free, My dogs do great on this and like it.

Just threw away a new bag of Merrick dog food. The bag arrived on Friday (ordered on Amazon) and my dog ate from it once and began getting ill. To be honest I didn’t think it was the food right away, but I am now convinced. I fed him from the bag again, and still vomit and diarrhea. Then it dawned on me, the food! This happened another time with a Trader Joe’s brand, that they no longer carry. So I started feeding him brown rice and fish, brown rice and chicken, peas and broccoli. He’s fine now. I have totally lost faith In the dog food industry. Not to mention Amazon, No QC people!!! Your backing a brand by selling it to your customers, why don’t you verify they will sell a product that won’t get dogs sick. I know there are many of you out there that have had the same experience. I am writing this review so no one else has to go through the stress, sleepless nights, clean up...of a sick dog, that was made sick by Merrick DOG FOOD! Amazon did refund the money I paid for the food, and both the company and Amazon offered an apology. I think the problem is systemic, companies need to be held accountable or nothing will change.

Switched from Merrick chicken to Merrick lamb. The lamb smelled rancid and was harder and drier than the chicken. I know that lamb is a more recent addition to the world of kibble…so the demand hasn’t yet caught up with that of beef, chicken and fish. Less demand means less turnover means less freshness…and likely less nutrition. Merrick needs to tune up its algorithms so that the lamb is equal in freshness to its cousins.
