How does this detector discriminate gold?

The sdc 2300 is very sensitive and does detect gold but it detects all other metals too. It does not have discriminate capability

What discrimination capability does it have, will be using this in creek beds in Oregon where there is a lot of minerals in the rocks

SDC 2300 is extremely sensitive to small nuggets in heavily mineralised ground conditions. It is ideal for prospecting creek beds where high mineral content is too hot for other detectors. The SDC 2300 is very sensitive to small gold scattered in heavily mineralised ground. This gold is often missed by prospectors with both VLF and PI detectors because of the difficult ground conditions and fine gold size. You can now detect the small gold missed in previously searched areas. These small gold finds can lead the way to new patches and bigger gold deposits. It features Automatic Ground Tracking (AGT) & Fast Ground Balance to eliminate the effects of heavily mineralised ground. The SDC 2300 is an all-metal PI detector and does not have any target discrimination capability to differentiate between different types of metal.

How deep can it detect items under the ground?

Nobody can answer that question accurately as varying conditions including target size and ground type will dictate the depth that a target can be found. I will say that this is by far my favorite metal detector that I use as it's compact and water proof up to 10 feet. I know people who claim to have found gold over 20 inches with this detector. The SDC 2300 is very sensitive to small gold scattered in heavily mineralized ground. Field tests have proven that the SDC 2300 will find much smaller gold than the GPX 5000, and all VLF detectors, in heavily mineralized ground conditions. Field testers have reported that other brand detectors are far below this level of performance and have demonstrated the SDC 2300 is ‘unbeatable’ in this mid-range high performance PI class.
