Worth the Money!
This is an excellent stereo system with many additional features to enhance its value. Firstly, it was extremely easy to set up - the only exception being the insertion of the four speaker wires into the main unit. However, this fiddly task need only be undertaken once! The CD Player is simple to operate and has a smooth tray movement when inserting or removing CD's. The Bluetooth pairing is again simple to set up and it works well with apps such as Amazon Music. Other audio devices can also be connected via the Audio Input facility. In this regard, we successfully set up our home satellite radio through this audio channel. FM radio also operates well for all nearby local stations. It comes with a remote which covers most functions including a sound selector acting as a mini graphic equalizer. The overall sound quality is very acceptable at both high, medium, and low frequencies. Should you want a bass output to shake the walls, this unit is not for you but, for a medium to large room, it sounds great. The only criticism is the lack of a more comprehensive user manual. It does come with a quick start guide but this does not cover some of the more useful information. However, this omission was not sufficient to prevent my selection of a five-star rating for this excellent unit.

Pretty good little unit
I just recently bought this shelf stereo and I have to admit I’m impressed. Nothing fancy but it’s easy to use and sounds better than my old Sony which I just got rid of.

No rear inputs or AM radio, otherwise decent for price
Update: I found a 3.5mm Audio Cable Stereo Aux Cord 90 Degree Right Angle to plug in the front and it fits underneath perfectly, so you don't even notice it (see third picture). The sound quality is very good and it's worked well now for several months, so I am updating to 5 stars for the price. No inputs in the back. Who sets up a sound system with everything hooked into the front? Otherwise functions well, good sound, and decent radio reception once you untangle the wire antenna.

Philips M4205: Good sound, poor functionality
First, the positives: This system sounds very nice considering the price point. It was easy to set up and its footprint is small. The Negatives: I bought this bookshelf system for one feature. Specifically to be able to play music from my iPod and iPhone. The unit does neither. Nor does the bluetooth work. I set it up and plugged in my iPod. The LED display says its reading the files and then displays a message saying "No USB". I checked the connection (its connected) then tried a different device. Same result. I went to Philips website for support and downloaded the user guide. The guide states the system won't work with some devices (it doesn't specify which). A BIG negative like that should have been mentioned in the product description. Another negative in my opinion is the chintzy feel of the controls and the less than smooth opening and closing of the CD tray. My expectation is this unit won't last very long, however, given the size of the box and the hassle factor to return for a refund, I will just keep it and play CD's for as long as it lasts. Overall I would not recommend this product. If you are still set on buying one, do yourself a favor and make sure it will interface with your MP3 player & bluetooth. **UPDATE** March 31, 2023 I have made several attempts to contact Philips for support to find out why my mp3 devices don't work with USB connection. All I get are automated responses from the company saying they will respond in 24-48 hours. They never actually address my issues. In addition the CD player has begun to make intermittent, loud clicking noises when playing CD's. In light of the poor customer support and poor performance of the unit that was purchased less than 3 months ago, I would strongly recommend AGAINST purchase of this CD player.

Solid, Durable System for all Music Needs
Awesome product! This unit replaced an inferior, gently used shelf stereo that degraded for me within two years. I mostly use this Philips stereo for FM jazz radio and didn't even need the multiple, headache antennas for previous unit. No static right out of the box and effortless setup. Sound is crisp and perfect for any living room setting. And other features CD, USB, AUX input, etc. work as expected with durability and reliability that likely will endure for years with gentle wear and tear. Thank you Philips, for this solid and stellar music system!

Weak BlueTooth connectivity and cd player won’t open
2nd update on this unit. I sent an email to Pillips support and they did get back to me, requesting many photos and other info. I sent that info to them and have heard nothing back from them at all. I had started sticking a knife to sort of pome around the edges of the CD tray, but that does not seem to work very well anymore. I primarily bought this item to listen to my hundreds of CDs. I do use it for Satellite radio over my phone, but the Bluetooth functionality is not that great either. Update on this unit. I am having difficulty opening the cd player. The button doesn’t work well, or it is getting stuck. I find myself picking up the unit and dropping it on the table or slapping it on the sides to get it to open. Unfortunately I am past the return date so I may be stuck with it. I have sent an email to Phillips support. Hopefully they are helpful. I was pretty disappointed in this. The sound is wimpy, so I swapped out the speakers it came with for some old ones I had sitting around. And the BlueTooth connection really does suck. I could say that it is because I have a weak WiFi setup here, but I have a cheap little Doss Soundbox speaker and it never losses the BT connection even if I walk to the other end of the house or outside. So far the CD player is fine, though I was spoiled by my old system that had a 5 CD changer. So convenient. And I have not tried the radio yet.
