I heard certain CAC readers no longer work nowadays. Does this one still work?

It works flawlessly with Win7, 8, and 8.1. I am big fan of these, because they are recognized on every OS the moment you insert them, foldaway nicely, and can be attached to key rings. Really well designed and durable.

Just to clarify, this can be used with a Mac desktop computer and for military IDs?

NO! It's for CAC Cards but stinks with Macs. This even has a hard time with some PC's. I'm sure if you know a lot of computer stuff you could get it goin on Mac but it's not a simple plug-n-play

Does it come with the software in the USB or do I have to download something off the internet?

It does not come with software, but you can easily download software from your CAC provider or off the internet for FREE. Not $35 per the other answer.

Is this made in China?
