Honestly very impressed with this kit. I never leave reviews but I have to for this. Cheap and very nicely packaged. Comes with detailed picture instructions and is very easy to install. I have a 2011 f150 with a heavy step tailgate with 0 support left in it as the brackets broken, now with this I can open the handle and let the tailgate drop with no hands and it slowly drops. Highly recommend

It will only work on the drivers side. I bought two because of the reviews but the bottom bracket is only made for the drivers side. Easy to install and it does help tremendously but two would be better. I thought I’d be able to cut the mount to fit but it will not align properly. I attempted to return the item but the seller stated no need to return! Fantastic to work with, amazing customer support and refund was immediate!

This was a lot simpler than I was excepting. using the nut on the bracket went smooth. 15-minute job and works great. I did not know where the washer included went so I used it on the ball nut into the tailgate.

Update 11/16/2023: The seller has reached out to me and issued a full refund. I am updating this review just to include this information. Due to the good customer service, I am changing my rating from 1 star to 4 stars. Keep in mind, they did not ask me to change my review, nor was it a condition of my refund to do so. All they did was reach out and ask if I wanted a refund or a new product, I opted for the refund since I had already purchased a new tailgate assist of a different brand for my truck. The original review remains unedited below. Obviously, I was pretty angry when I wrote it, but I'm happy everything worked out in the end. I bought one of these a few months ago for my 2004 GMC Sierra 1500. It worked alright for a while, until it didn't. Several weeks ago, it completely stopped working. I opened my tailgate and let it fall, as I had grown accustomed to doing, and the tailgate slammed down with zero resistance. After returning to this page and noticing some of the absolutely ridiculous claims this company is making, I decided to make a review on it. 1) Despite what they're telling you, it's not going to make it easier to close your tailgate, it only slows the tailgate down when you open it and helps prevent it from slamming (Until it breaks, that is). 2) Claiming it (and I quote) "extend(s) the service life of the entire back end of your vehicle" is such an insanely outrageous claim that it's almost humorous. I don't think I need to elaborate on that. 3) "Rest Easy: This will be the only tailgate shock your truck will ever need. Tested and durable" How much testing did it take to make a product that completely fails after a few months? 4) "Orion Motor Tech backs it with a lifetime warranty and after-sales service." Conveniently, there doesn't seem to be any contact information listed where I could take advantage of this "lifetime warranty" and get a replacement for my faulty product. And with a $20 price tag, they're clearly bluffing anyway. Surely if you backed your product and did that much testing to ensure your product was extremely durable, you'd provide contact information or some kind of instruction to talk to customer service, right? Because if you have a superior product, you know not many people will need it, but out of the few that would, it's all about customer feedback. But if you make claims like this and don't back it up, obviously it's because your product is trash. Overall, ignoring the fact that it didn't last very long at all, I actually liked this product a lot. Initially when I installed it, the support cable on the tailgate would get pushed out of the gap, to where it was sticking outside, as some others have mentioned. Turns out it was just because I tightened one of the bolts when it was supposed to be left loose, and loosening the bolt fixed the problem. As tempted as I am to buy another one of these for only $20, I don't see the point in waiting for it to break. If I have to cradle my tailgate every time I open it, anticipating that inevitable moment it stops working, then what's the point in using this product in the first place? Overall, I would not recommend this product. If you do buy it, buy it as a gift for someone you don't like, and in a few months they'll slam their tailgate when the product fails.

Not the product fault or the seller but please be mindful (I wasn’t) to read all the specs. It will absolutely not work with installed tie down brackets (bottle opener) on the side of the tailgate of Ford F150 The quality of product seemed good, install super easy. I’m just not willing to sacrifice the tie down for extra insurance of having it in the event the internal mechanism failure that’s already factory installed.

Arrived yesterday, took all of 5 minutes to install (helps to have the right tools and good weather) in my 2015 F-150 XLT. Does exactly what it is supposed to do.

First of all. Before it broke, this tailgate assist device worked perfectly. Lowered tailgate 3 times since installation and pin broke from weld. 1 Month update. Bracket broke within a week. Contacted seller and they sent me a replacement within a week. Very good customer service. Thank you.

Product does exactly what it says--"Assist"--but only when opening the tailgate (2020 F250). I was expecting it to assist with closing, but there is no noticeable difference in ease of closing the tailgate before/after install. I even switched the piston direction to opposite of what the instructions call for but that was WAY worse. If you are expecting this (like I was) to turn reduce the perceived weight of the tailgate when closing, then this is NOT the product for you. I was hoping it would perform similar to how my trailer ramp assist works assisting both the up/down function and reducing the weight....not the case. Installing this product basically turns it into a "soft open" tailgate so it doesn't SLAM down when opening or if you don't quite catch the latch. The directions are "ok", not even close the the worst I've seen. Easy to understand w/quality pictures, however, several of the pictures are mirrored/flipped. Once I figured that out (followed words for those). Biggest complaint is that the included T50 Torx tool is total garbage--rounded ends and too small for any leverage--almost made me strip the tailgate cable anchor. If you don't have one in your tool box, a quality one is less than 10 bucks here on amazon (and likely at your local auto shop). Would have like to see the company put this as a required tool, in addition to the 10mm socket and M5 hex (which they list). Overall worth the price to try it out....if it wasn't for the trip to my local autoshop I would have given it 5-stars.

No me ayudó en nada en mi F250 modelo de 1997 a 2003, la tapa sigue bajando de golpe y sigue costando bastante subirla, no quiero gastar más pero a lo mejor necesitaba dos de estos y dudo que aún así pueda ayudar en algo notabe.

Super simple to install and works great. Instructions were good with pictures and simple wording. Made a huge difference in my tailgate.
