This soil thermometer works great. I use it regularly in both my compost pile and the garden, and it seems to be very accurate. It does exactly what it’s supposed to and makes it easy to monitor conditions for better results. A simple but reliable tool — highly recommend for gardeners and composters. TL;DR: Accurate and reliable soil thermometer. Works perfectly in compost and garden.

Build quality is great - stands up to the elements. Seems accurate enough. Easy to read. Good price. Long enough to get to the center of my compost piles. Not recommended for rectal temperature taking.

This thermometer is nice and long to get the temp in your compost bin. The packaging has thorough instructions on how to improve your compost for a quicker and more reliable processing time. I will always have one of these as long as I am composting.

I have been composting for almost a year. I have the 75% brown and 25% Green stuff. My international grocery store gave some wonderful green stuff to add to my compost. So I have roughly 128 gallons of stuff. I live in Arizona so I was expecting the high heat (sure, it's a dry heat) to help with composting. Only it was too hot. Have you noticed the reading material on compost is vague? Add some water (good tip but not very specific.). So, I purchased a compost thermometer. I have two bins that hold about 64 gallons each. I added 3 gallons of water and stuck the thermometer into the center of the compost. Over 3 days I recorded temperatures of 94F to 103 F with day time temperature highs of 93 F to 103F. The most interesting thing is first thing in the morning my compost is at 90 F with a temperature in the yard of 77 F. One of the categories mentioned is accuracy. Great question. I gave it a "3" because I don't know. The thermometer has a range of 40 to 180F (it might have an extended range, it might not. So I wouldn't use an ice bath or boiling water to check. Easy to read -- gave it a "5". Value for money "3" time will tell. The company includes a card that states "Have question, we love to hear from you?" NO such luck. It appears the company was in India, They do not have a working website. And as such you can;t register for the lifetime warranty. The price is right and if you are venturing into composting start inexpensive and work your way up.

I have used the thermometer twice on my compost pile and it functioned great both times. The extra length gets down to the active core easily. Totally satisfied so far. Time will tell if it can hold up to careful use. Trying to fill out the warranty can be a bit troublesome. The seller had to assist me with the warranty.

On 12/03/2017 I purchased a Compost Soil Thermometer by Greenco which has clear display numbers & is easy to read. It works great for checking & tracking my compost pile temperatures from start to finish. While this metal thermometer is quite durable & easy to use (i.e. insert into compost piles) I did notice that the dial area began to fog up this past May 2019 making it unreadable. When I contacted the Company about this situation, they replaced my unreadable thermometer. I really appreciate their steadfast commitment to customer satisfaction.
